What would a top 10 catcher cost, prospect-wise?

and do you really want to block Bart like that?
Bart would be the cost . . for starters. And he would be moot anyway if this top 10 catcher was acquired. Might as well throw Posey in to this deal as well.
You clearly have much to learn on baseball talent.

Pretty rough new for Garcia. he was the one young player who had a clear path to PT and this was his first real shot. Now he's out and next year Bart will hopefully be an everyday guy and Posey will still be around. On his account, pretty horrible timing.

He may be wiling, once his arm is ready for throwing again. But that won't be until May, from what I've heard. He has been the team's third string catcher in past seasons, but when he was much younger (he last played a big league game at catcher in 2009).

That argument sound awfully familiar.

remember all the arguments about him playing 3rd? I remember personally taking the stance that he was NOT the 3rd baseman of the future because he just didn’t have the reps.

When Sandoval came up, I was a brand new father and so wasn't as up on the guys in the farm. He came as a bit of a surprise for me. I think I just joined the ESPN board at the end of 2008, so I may have missed some of those conversations.

I thought you were in the middle of those.

basically, the rumors were that he would be the 3B, but he hadn’t played the hot corner since San Jose, for just a handful of games, iirc. I was was one of those shouting down those who took the side of his moving from catcher to 3B. There just wasn’t any on-field evidence that he could do it.

I was wrong.

If that argument was going on after the 2008 season, then I would probably have been part of it. Considering that was his debut season, then it is possible. If it was in 2007, then no.

Wasn’t Castillo the 3B in ‘08? (RIP)

So these discussions must have taken place during the 08 season or between 08 and 09.
Then it was possible that I engaged in them, if I felt like I could do so. I don't remember how gung ho I was on discussing something that detailed but I do remember not being excited to have Castillo at 3rd base. Of course, knowing me, I may have argued for either Sandoval or Rohlinger over Castillo but argued that they needed a year in AAA first.

08 was a complete throw away year, iirc. Castillo was a late add because we didn’t have a 3B at all, and he was kinda a joke (RIP).
