For taking an banned anti inflammatory drug similar to a drug that is accepted by the NBA …

And he’s not appealing this?

No, for taking an banned opioid drug with a name that sounds similar to a non-banned anti-inflammatory drug.
He admits doing it and it was a mistake. An associate with a prescription gave it to him by mistake--nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
Maybe you should just not take someone else's prescription meds :noidea:

I posted this in the general thread... I'll repost here as well:

Fwiw...

I have a fair bit of addiction in my family group.

One family member in particular threw their life away (for awhile) on tramadol... supposed to be a "lesser" opioid, but this relation lost their job, family, and ended up in jail for many months because they couldn't stop abusing the stuff.

Thankfully, they're clean now... still: tramadol can be a b!tch, and Portis' excuse is hard to believe.

You think the one time he happens to make the name mistake just happening to coincide with one of the 9 (max) in-season drug tests is a stretch?

How does a dude make a "name mistake", anyhow?

These are prescribed medications, after all.

Either Portis is getting his meds off the street or his story just doesn't add up to sense.

According to portis he didn’t make the mistake , an assistant accidentally gave him wrong pill..

Ok, not appealing , so why BS about it

Something like he said he needed some Toridol and the assistant said he had some he could take mistaking Tamidol for Toridol as they do sound something alike.
Just don't take someone else's meds. Not only are names important, but dosages are as well.

Intent may get you a longer ban?

And he is a fan favorite, don't want to disappoint them.

Folks (even NBA folks) aren't allowed to take controlled pills that aren't prescribed to them.

Sounds better than "I'm abusing an opioid".

My wife takes tramadol as one of her pain meds for lupus.

A few years ago, my doctor had prescribed me some Vicodin for an injury. I didn't like it because messed my stomach up.

My wife offered me a Tramadol and said it's not as strong as Vicodin, so maybe it wouldn't mess my stomach up.

It didn't mess my stomach up, but it did turn me into a zombie.

Went and got some Tums and stuck to the Vicodin. lol

Told her that I'm never taking that shit again.

I had a similar situation with a powerful pain med, @trojanfan12 ... I was prescribed (I believe) hydrocodone when I had kidney stones, but it tied my stomach into a knot. I also didn't like the spacey feeling.

After a day or two, I was more willing to endure the pain of kidney stones (which was agony) then I was to keep taking the opiate.

I had vicodin for a grossly herniated disc. It didn't do much for the pain but make me not care about it. Ibuprophen was more effective since the pain was from inflammation of the disc pressing on the nerve. I only took the vicodin so I could fall asleep in bed at night. I still had to get up after 4 hours and move to the couch just to get a manageable amount of sleep.
