That was an interesting commerical...what was the deal with that?

My guess was that the producers of the commercial just did not think it through. Cody was probably around, hanging with Hamilton, and the producers were like "You want in on the commercial?" and the oddity was born.

That was pretty funny now that I think about it. He was really just an extra. I don't think he even said a single word. He did make a facial expression.

I havent seen it in a while, but if memory serves, I think he chuckled when Hamilton looked at the guy when he walked up to try his new bat...

In the long shot, he was not present. It was only Ranger players in the long shot. This just added to the true wackiness of his cameo.

I didn't even notice that he wasn't in the long shot. Good eye.

re:Ross should stay because of his performance in getting us a World Series. he did nothing before the playoffs, but because of that performance it bought him an extra year (2011) he didn't produce this year, it is time for him to go

While I was not expecting all star numbers from Ssory Doc, I was expecting AT LEAST average production from him. His numbers in Florida were quite solid until 2010. I figured he was let go mainly because the Fish had a number of OF prospect coming up that were MLB ready and they needed the roster spot.

I will be wrong again someday as well...

Even the 2010 numbers with the Fish would be acceptable in this sorry season.

.265, 11 HR, 58 RBI in 120 games, .265/.316/.405/.721

2011?

.233, 12 HR, 47 RBI in 114 games, .233/.322/.390/.712

Those numbers are pretty comparable I'd say.

I'd like to see him back next season, no guarantees on a starting spot but I don't see why he shouldn't be given another opportunity - at this point we have Nate for RF, but tell me who else is returning? Torres? Pfft. Beltran... ok by me if he moves to LF and takes a bit of a paycut - but he's no lock obviously. Who else we got? Maybe Huff moves to LF if Beltran isn't signed. Seems like we've got room for Ross somewhere in the mix.

Cody's problem is his salary. He makes 6.3M this year. If we were to offer him Arb, you have to figure he would go to AT LEAST 7M.

NO WAY do I want him back at 7M.

I would take him back at no more than 3.5M, and I am not even sure about that.

According to COTs, Ross is a FA for the first time this off season.

If we were to Non-Tender him, he could see his market value. If he were still available, I would LOVE to have him come to camp as a non-roster invitee with the understanding that he is essentially on the team, and give him 2.5 - 3M.

If he can get better elsewhere, good luck to him, and the SF crowds will cheer him mightily his first AB at the booth.

I agree and I actually typed that up and deleted almost those exact $$ for my last post... I thought $3-4 mil and I am sure about that because #1 it's not my money! #2 the Giants don't seem to have a problem spending money like they used to and #3 that's a pretty good deal for a dude who may be your 4th OF or may get hot and hit his way into the starting lineup.

But hey they will sign who they sign and if they can do better I'm down. If they bring back an OF of Nate Christian and Torres I'm going to sacrifice a rubber chicken and pray for lots of rainouts.

He hit .288 with an .820 ops in the 2010 regular season for us. I would take that anytime.

This! Precisely my feelings on the matter. Not sure what happened this year. Perhaps he excels when the expectations are low, and chokes when the expectations are high? Perhaps he is not a leader. He seemed to fit the team temperature, when the team was hitting, so was he, when it wasn't, neither was he.

But yeah, no way at $6+ million.
