it's funny that of all the pens fans comments have come every player i thought of. Kasper came to mind, along with every memeber of the Straka-Lang-Kovalev line. i was a big Lang fan.

For the Sharks,it would have to be the line of Ricci/Sundstrom/Thornton (not Jim). None of them were dynamic by themselves, but they were one of the (if not the) best 3rd lines in the NHL.

Ricci was my answer as well. I would pick Damphousse but he was too high profile.

I'm not sure if a guy who used to be known as the greatest American-born player of all-time fits the description of "obscure".

He was a roll player on the Pens so I figured he fit.

3rd in team scoring during his first full season in a Pens uniform + Hall of Fame. Hardly an obscure role player.

Disagree with me all you want, I dont give a shit. He is a role player in my eyes when he was on the Pens.

He was always top ten but never higher than 3 and that was ONCE.

By your definition, that would be anybody except Mario and Jammy. A prime Ron Francis wouldn't be a bad "role player" for any 30 NHL teams, either.

He was outside of the top 5 in scoring on the Pens every season but one. That is a role player.

And what did the Pens do in that one season that they didn't do in any other season with Joe Mullen in the lineup for the entire season?

But I won't debate this. If you mean Joe Mullen's role was to score points and use speed to stretch out the D while playing on the PP and top-two scoring lines, yup, he was a role player, and a good one at that.

Bryan Trottier was a role player in a Pens uniform.
