Coach K's hands are tied, he has to coach whatever retarded non pressure scheme Bo tells him to do, and like it. Just as an experiment I wonder what would happen if they just told our line to try and tackle the QB vs mess around with Olinemen

yea, bo needs to do something different on the DL. just nothing there as far as pressure and run stopping. Saw a ton of stunts in the 2nd half and that didn't seem to help either. agree that this is on Bo and not Kaz, i think the talent is there, but we might just need to scrap 2 gap.

Something struck me last spring. A quote from Coach Jones regarding the Vols defense.

One of the points Jones is emphasizing on this day, UT's fourth practice of the spring, is getting 11 men swarming to the ball on defense.

"When you swarm to the ball, you get rewarded!" Jones shouts. "For the next three plays, the quarterback is LIVE!"

This was in spring ball. They really haven't played any one to tell but last year their defense was atrocious. It will be interesting to see what this mentality does this year.

I saw go 3-4

Mike and buck lb become interior Ilb

Outside lb will be WILL and ss/db

Still have good run support and speed on the outside
Even if they wanna be funny and go 5 wide you still have db/ hybrid support

Or freak the 3-3-5 out and bring in some hybrid fast players

Worth a try anything to help the DL

alright I rewatched some of the game, focusing mostly on DL play. The whole DL needs to work on conditioning. I'll give them a break as it was hot, so I know its tough on them.
Valentine and Curry didn't look bad at DT. They need work but they are young. Maurice and Collins also look like they had potential but needed even more work than Valentine and Curry.
Randle - no offense, i thought him coming back off injury and the coaches talking him up, he was going to be good, but he was the one lining up 1 yard off the ball every time, he was standing up off the snap and hand fighting with offensive linemen.
That was a problem with a lot of the line play last night, too much standing up and looking, trying to see the play instead of trying to beat the guy blocking them. Let a lot of the offensive linemen get in on them and get position which I think led to a lot of holding that wasn't going to get called because they let them do that.

DE - I didn't necessarily have a problem with any of them. They need to attack harder, I'm unsure if that is Bo's scheme or just them trying not to screw up, but I just didn't like seeing the Tackle, getting his 2-3 yd drop and get position before our DEs hardly even cross the scrimmage line. So by this time, the Tackle was set up good Smith already had a second or even two before our DE is getting contact with that tackle, they still have to make a move to get past him and they just weren't doing that. Multiple times, they would have an opportunity to get around, but of course with Bo's "let's keep him in the pocket" mentality they wouldn't take it and reengage the OLineman. It was frustrating to watch.

I think Bo's got to just cut them loose. I saw good potential with Valentine, curry, gregory, ankrah, but just too much standing up trying to play the 2gap.

On the series where we did stop WYO, we got excellent D-line play.

We've been saying that since the back to back loses to Va Tech 4 and 5 years ago. He's not going to do it so forget it. It's not his scheme.

All I been hearing in the offseason from the coaches is "the system works, it's proven" about Bo's defense. Papoopies JR High level defense gets schooled in every aspect and sense of the term. Im real tired of watching us get totally humiliated because of poor coaching.
If JP doesn't know what to do then he needs to get the fuck out of the way and let someone else that does take over, he's in way over his yead
-------
Don't think it's so much JP but Bo and that damn playbook of his. Remember the last guy from the defense that got drafted by the Lions? Was he just good and therefore made Bo's defenses look good? Or did the whole defense actually buy into Bo's playbook. I think it's the former. Pelini somehow doesn't get that sometimes as a coach one needs to adjust defensive schemes to match the talent he has.

I bet Urban Meyer could make this defense look better! He isn't the only one either!

Don't forget about Penn State, but I think Nebraska eeks out a win against Mich. St.

I could see Mich St scoring 17 off of turnovers alone. Couple that with running right at Nebraska for 14pts or so.

31-24 Sparty

I agree. I can very easily see Nebraska losing that game the way Pelini prepares his teams to play.

I heard nothing but good things of ankrah this offseason and I always thought he was overrated and a Meredith/Stienkuler 2.0.

Safe to say, my assumption is spot on.
