@RenLavoieRDS: PK Subban will take the weekend with family and agents, to evaluate what's next after talks with the Canadiens today.

I'm curious, what do people on here think he's worth in trade value?

I'm sure MTL wants someone like Couturier back, I personally see that as unrealistic given that it's been leaked the Subban wants a big pay raise and long term deal also because blue chip C's are ectremely rare to come by(that said I'd never trade Cooter for Subban anyway).

If you're trading Subban, I would think you would want either a young NHL defenseman with a similar skill set or a prospect and a high draft pick (thinking 1st or 2nd rounder). The thing is, with every Habs win, I think it drives down PK's value a little.

imo blue chip dmen are even rarer to come by

Subban has a chance to be there ... ive heard comparisons to 210 (Phaneuf) but Subban listens to coaches and wants to improve so thats where comparisons begin and end with me

The advanced stats honks love Subban ... reading all their stuff I still think he has a very high ceiling

that being said ... Habs are really lowballing him and if he ends up signing the 2 year 5.1 mill deal they are offering ... good luck in him re-signing the next time his contract comes up

I hear what you're saying. I think the whole ceiling thing is what has me thinking Couturier for Subban straight up is a total joke. I fully believe that if Cooter didn't come down with mono in his final year(which he scored 96 pts in 58 games) leading up the draft he'd have pushed RNH for first overall or at the very least been drafted 2nd. I just don't see Subban having anywhere near the same trade value as Cooter, plus the fact that Cooter is only 20 means he has a lot of potential for growth left. I've even take into account their playing history. Now granted Cooter only played one season but who else can say they straight up shut Malkin down? not too many people. I'm not debating that Subban does has a nice ceiling, but if he is as much a detriment to the locker room as some reports state that can't help but lower his perceived trade value plus the large gap in where the 2 parties are on contract value.

So that's my view on the subject. That said what does everyone think Subban is realistically worth?

They're severely underpaying him. You gotta look at the market. Obviously there are few crazy deals you just say are outliers, but still, at his age, with his experience, and overall numbers? Worth a lot more than 2.2M

I was thinking the 4-4.5m range for 4-5 yrs because of what you just said.

From what I've read it's the term that PK really wants. So I could see something under four, but needs to be at least 5 years.

I think GM's are going to be very leery of giving out second contracts that take a play to ufa status now.

I think what the team is offering is too low and what PK wants is too high and too long.

They'd probably want Nino for him at the very least. I don't want PK anywhere near my team for two reasons.

1.He's had a problem getting along with teammates.
2.He's supposed to be a defenseman. I see him as a liability in his own zone at this stage of his career.

Team is at 2.5m a yr & Subban wants 5m a yr. I think the market shows player like subban get anywhere between 3.5m & 4.5m a yr so I'd say $4m is fair. That said the years are a big issue(GM's want them to end with players still rfa & players want to be ufas) as is the fact that historically MTL is very cheap with second contracts. I think this is an impass that may end in a trade, however I don't think MTL is going to get the return they're originally expecting.

Also what happens to an rfa if he isn't signed? Does he become a ufa after sitting a year? I know drafted players can sit a year to become ufas(see Umberger and more recently Schultz).

If MTL accepted Nino for Subban straight up I'd say the Isles would win that trade in resounding fashion. Nino hasn't been able to stick with the big club yet and for all his success in the AHL any intelligent GM won't trade a proven NHL player for a guy who shows potential if he can make the jump.
