I have not watched many games the last couple of years, but I keep hearing the NFL officiating is atrocious. Seems like there is a story every week where the League admits to referee errors.

Speaking of baseball umps, do you remember Eric Gregg? One day he was having a bad day behind the plate and Larry Bowa decided to pinch-hit for his pitcher, but he was taking a long time deciding who was going to head up to the plate. Finally, Gregg walked over and and said, "Larry, who's going to hit?"

No "game management".

No players "code" that they follow to let certain things go.

Far fewer reputation calls.

Penalties are penalties at all times of the game.

Better communication with fans and players.

Hockey refs have a tougher job but they do a way worse job too.


NBA reffing is by far the worst though, IMO.
