Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy bacon
that Rob Niedermeyer is close to signing with the Buffalo Sabres...
Thank god it's not pittsburgh...
If Buffalo can convince Scott to come out of retirement and play with Rob, then the Sabres will be in business...
And Boss can stop banging his head off of the wall...
All three could hang out and talk about the good 'ol days...
Centers can play some wing. It's not unheard of, look at Team Canada's roster at the Olympics. Besides, it's almost necessary to have two people on the ice able to take a faceoff, without names on the back of linesmen jerseys they have to get noticed somehow. Waiving people out of the faceoff dot seems to work for them.
Like when the Dead Sea was merely sick.
How stupid. Why on earth would a team just stock up on centers? Where are they all going to fit?!
How the hell will signing him help the sabres!?
We already have a top 1 and 2 center who are far superior to him in connolly and roy.
We also have the up and coming ennis and gerbe who are arguably better or at par with him, and then we have the Goose.
That gives us 5 centers currently competing for 4 spots. Not to mention that Rob isn't exactly a spring chicken, the man is 35. Exactly where does Rob fit into the puzzle that is the Sabres Roster? Going in the wrong direction and wasting money on this one Regier... That means it'll probably happen...

Just a kind of arbitrary assessment, but I would say about half or more of all forwards in the NHL are centers by trade, and about a third of them play wing consistently. Centers are, in general, the most valuable forward position because they take faceoffs and have greater defensive responsibility, so that phenomenon is pretty easily explained.
Loading up on centers is a pretty good strategy, assuming their value to the team and salary correspond appropriately. Line combinations become more flexible, more players on the ice have more diverse skill sets, etc. It worked for the Penguins. I think they had something like 8 centers on their roster when they won the Cup.
Now that I see the numbers I'm not against this signing, I was thinking regier was going to grossly overpay the man with 2-2.25/yr. We still need a solid second pair d-man and a good 2 way winger who can score or a powerforward to fill out the ranks.
Just remember Sabres fans, your third D-pairing next year stands as Sekera and Butler....
Come on Miller hold those guys up.
