And it should be. You can’t even breathe on a QB when they slide. What is the defense supposed to do?

How many times have there been penalties called against a defensive player who had committed to the hit only to have the QB slide. Yeah, probably a lot.

However, it does seem that the refs were pretty good at spotting the ball "where the player began the slide." At times, it almost seemed like they spotted the ball a full couple of yards behind where the QB ended.

Sure to be an "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalty next year.
I don't know about making it a penalty, but at least call the play dead if a QB attempts to fake a slide.

Maybe your idea is better, people generally respond better when they have incentives or want to avoid a punishment.

If they are not going to prevent a fake slide then QB's should be fair game once they leave the pocket.

He’s a Heisman finalist, probably won’t win it regardless but maybe that fake slide will impact voters.

Yeah, I wondered at the time… It’d be like a runner heading for the sideline and then when the D pulls up, darting down the sideline for extra yards… Pickett’s fake slide was ever-so-slight, but enough to make the D hesitate.

Vick did that to West Virginia one game.

That moment was the fastest anyone has ever moved on a football field, imo.

In college Vick was unreal. I was at the UVA Va Tech game where he left for injury in the first quarter. The way that Lane Stadium lit up when he came back from the locker room was unreal.

Vick and Bush were the 2 most exciting players I’ve ever seen play college football.

LOL, looks more like savvy football to me. I see nothing wrong with this at all.

I am also of the opinion that he is fair game to get plastered the moment he takes the snap.

Of course, if the D were allowed to plaster him the moment he takes the snap, this entire discussion would be irrelevant.

Yes. Nevertheless, it was just smart football by Pickett.
