Philly's Offseason

Has anyone been keeping up with Philly's offseason so far? They've done some good things by re-signing some young, core players (though there's an issue of overpayment with some). But now their GM Howie Roseman has gone schizophrenically wild. First, they're going to trade away two starters on defense, ILB Kiko Alonso and CB Byron Maxwell to the Dolphins. Then, they've apparently traded away DeMarco Murray to the Titans. Now, they're shopping Ryan Matthews to anyone who may be interested in him. I don't know what they're getting in return for these players, but there's only so much you can do in terms of unloading too many players during a season. While getting draft picks are always nice, those picks won't be able to come in and contribute immediately and the Eagles don't have the depth to elevate players and compete.

I guess we should see what these trades yield for Philly and what other moves they make during the offseason. But this is looking more like a house cleaning that occurs after a new Presidential administration takes over than a rational, well-thought transition between coaching regimes.

Setting that aside, the guy is also getting rid of veteran players with no apparent plan to replace them. But the overarching issue here is Roseman's pettiness is ridding the team of players obtained by Chip Kelly, the guy whom he spent all last season in an Eagles basement seething over. At some point in time, that mindset will catch up with you, if it hasn't already.

Who knows? The plan may be horrible or it might benefit them in the long run. Again - you just mentioned two players who pretty much contributed nothing to the Eagles & you even stated that one of them may not contribute for a very long time. Why would they get upset about that? They will have lots of cap money to rebuild their team & perhaps they are not just focusing on the upcoming season.

Beyond all of that as Redskins fans we should HOPE that this backfires on them & they suck for a very long time. Who gives a crap about the Eagles? The more bad moves they make the better!

Bottom line is this.. Chip fucked us a couple of years back with his stupidity and Howie is cleaning up his mess. I'm actually thrilled that somebody stupid was willing to take Demarco off our hands. I don'r care if it's for a bag of footballs. Maxwell was another bad choice due to overpaying big time for a guy who was playing in with a great secondary in Seattle. We will end up with some dead cap space, but to be honest, I think this couldn't have gone any better for us honestly. Regardless what anyone else says, it's a rebuild on a smaller scale. We have a lot of spots to fill and only FA and a draft to fill these holes. Ain't gonna happen in one offseason. That's my opinion folks. I'll be scouting next year's crop of QBs assuming we are the cellar dwellers this season.

This^^ You know what the unfortunate thing about all of this? Everybody is going to blame Sam Bradford. It's BS, but he is the easy scapegoat when we finish at the bottom. His WRs dropping passes, the OL being inexperienced or injured, or whatever excuse comes out. Nobody knows what the team is going to look like, but I don't want to buy a ton of mercenaries in FA either. We have a ton of draft picks going in and will shed more cap space. Long term we will be looking very good.

Yea doesnt seem all that bad to me. Maxwell and Murray were on horrible contracts and as some of you pointed out didnt really give them anything last year anyways. They may have overpaid for some of their guys but they are actually keeping their core guys and dumping the overpaid splash players that arent actually contributing.
