The Phillies are depressing to watch. Sometimes I wonder if they are ever going to score a run. The when they do I find my self saying that they lost another one but at least they scored. The most overpaid under achieving team in baseball. However there are times when they manage to score some runs but the bullpen blows the lead. Then I get even more depressed.

Good game from Kendrick. If your #4/5 goes 7 innings and allows only 3 runs, you need to win those games.

Pretty tough to win games where you give up three runs and then do not score any of your own.

The three young guys in the Phils' lineup, Revere, Brown, and Asche have not played as expected to support the core players that have done reasonably well. There are no substitutes for the younger players at this time, so they will just have to work their way out of it if the team is going to win even if it means losing more games now as they recover. Rhino says he's going to adjust the lineup to meet each situation, but that has meant playing playing percentages using slackers Gwynn, JMJ, and Galvis, now finally gone.

Jerking that line-up around (as we have already discussed on another thread) isn't going to help a team that is struggling. On the contrary, it probably is going to make things worse for a while until players adjust to being jerked around which as a franchsie is the norm for Phillies except for the FO's favs who are just plain old but apprarently doing better than the young guys. This of course supports Amaro's beliefs and adds fuel to the fire.

I agree with that. It would be nice if the Phillies had a young player that just came out of the shoot hitting. Amaro seems to be a reactionary GM * so maybe seeing a young player get off to a great start would change his thinking a little. I've seen it happen with other teams (Evan Gattis last year comes to mind) but it hasn't really happened with the Phillies since Ryan Howard. Of course the Phils haven't given many younger guys a chance the last few years, and ironically Howard's contract is one of the reasons for that.

*for an example of this, remember the Phils lost a series in 2010 to a team with marginal hitting and great pitching (SF Giants) and Amaro immediately tried to buy the best rotation in the history of baseball with little regard for the offense.

I remember saying at the beginning of the year that Revere needed to hit around .340 to be valuable enough to stay in our lineup. Well, he's hitting .268 with a 62(!) OPS+. Do we really need to see more?

Some players have been admirable, but not great, for short periods of time. Happ, Pettibone, and Ruf come to mind. And of course Hamels came up around the same time as Howard and has been a top 10 pitcher since 2007

I still like Howard's approach there. He's got to think opposite field more often.

We're going to score a run within 5 minutes- 2nd and 3rd, 0 outs. Asche up! How can we fail?

If only your predictive validity could extend throughout the whole season.
