I miss the days when we could pull Bake McBride or George Vukovich of the bench and count on a hit.

Del Unser was good too. But Mayberry is as good a pinch hitter as those guys. I think as the years go buy the memory gets selective. I agree Nix and Galvis don't exactly strike fear into opposing teams though.

On a related topic, I really think the teams, especially in the NL should add a player or two to the active roster. The managers are so concerned about pitch counts and over using pitchers and specialization now and it is hard to do in the NL when you also have to hit for the pitcher in games and you only have 4 guys on the bench, and one backup catcher.

Great observation Cedric. An added bench player would be an asset. This would prevent automatic outs due to relievers having plate appearances.
