I hope it's more than he simply got paid.....he just doesn't seem like the guy who would become complacent.....

He doesn't seem to have the same power he normally has, so I am thinking it has to be something up with his legs in some way, the root of all his power.

He doesn't strike me as the type of guy that goes, well, I got my millions, I am done. However, it has happened to better man than Atkins, so let's pray that is not it.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Atkins suddenly go off and take over a few games. If Johnson continues to play at the same level when that happens it's going to be fun to watch, and hard on a few OCs.

We're going to miss Michael Johnson next season. I hope Drago is ready.

I think right now, Atkins is getting full-time double. They are daring the ends to beat them. As long as Dunlap and Johnson continue to dominate, that will eventually change.

Yeah, I was just thinking how much it is gonna suck to lose Michael Johnson next year. Can't pay him and Green with the contracts we already have. Gresham is due up also. While he has been disappointing, he still helps make a potent 1-2 TE punch in our new set.

As far as I'm concerned Gresham can pound sand. He's utterly useless as a blocker, and he still has fumbling issues......I'm sure the drops will be next to return.....

Great front offices find ways to restructure deals and keep their players. If we want to keep Johnson, we can and I'm in favor of it. Lets Gresham walk. Cut a few guys if you have too. Cut BGJE, cut Geathers, cut Maualuga, hell cut Harrison. You find a way to keep Johnson IMO.

I think we'll make him an offer, but I think he'll walk. Unless D-ends are undervalued in FA this offseason, he's going to get a monster contract.

What about signing him before the year ends?

I'm sure they approached him last offseason. Dunlap and his agent beat them to the punch.... I figure this is going to play out a lot like J-Joe and Leon. We're only interested in locking up one.

We can franchise him one more time right? If so, that would make a lot of sense.

Absolutely. One more year and he might not be the same guy, anyway. Also gives another year to develop the beast.

I want to say in their 2nd franchise year you have to pay them 120% of their previous year so you would be looking at about 14 mil for him next year that way.

I think this is right. And that's going to be one hell of a one-year commit to a guy when you're already going to be (potentially) paying out a large signing bonus to AJ Green and Andy Gruden-Dalton.

I think Dalton being who he is with his limitations, but still plenty good enough to run our offense and get us to that next level will benefit us.

Dalton will get paid, but not outrageous, he will be affordable for a QB, Green will get his as long as he stops getting punked by opposing CB's.

QB's that are elite make a freaking fortune, Dalton will not reach that level and people keep talking about all his limitations, it can only help the Bengals when negotiating a new contract with him.

Probably, he will want a chance at another pay day once he tries to prove his better than what he is being offered, so I am thinking he will take a shorter contract. However, those agents like job security. I can see it going either of these ways:

3 years / 24 million / $14 million guaranteed

or

7 years / 50 million / $20 million guaranteed

He will get more per year with a smaller contract, but not have long term security. Or he just tosses in and says, I want the bigger value now for my future and takes less per season. He is already the starting QB, knows the system, has a ton of talent around him, it may be in his best interest to take the long term package.

Green is going to get in the neigborhood of:

8 years / 80 million with like 35 million guaranteed.

Maybe get Johnson for 5 years / $45 million as a home town discount maybe?

No way Dalton is taking a 3 year 24 mil deal or a 7 year 50 mil deal. I'm figuring 6 year 65 milish range.

Agreed. Flacco just got paid a ton and Dandy's agent can easily make the case that his Ginger's stats are comparable to Flacco's through their first years (without the playoff wins).

That is the key, no playoff wins. At least for now.

Plus, people keep talking about how he has no arm strength, isn't accurate, is the weakest link on a loaded offense. I mean that does not inspire people to want to spend much long term does it? I don't agree with all that BS, but I can see how management can argue that.

No way Dalton gets over 10 million a year, not a chance.
