PFF Team of Week 16

Each week the staff at Pro Football Focus watches over a combined 400 hours of football to ensure we know who the best players are. It makes us the premier outfit in player evaluation, used by NFL teams and fans alike to understand which guys are getting the job done and which guys aren’t.

It’s with this knowledge we can put out our Team of the Week, going beyond the box scores and the highlight reel plays to see who were the best players on every play of every game.

Here’s the Team of Week 16:

(Note: Team will be updated after Monday Night Football games are analyzed and on Wednesday when All-22 footage helps us study plays in even more detail where needed with an asterisk noting any change.)

OFFENSE

Quarterback: Andy Dalton, CIN (+5.2)

Is it his time? Will the Bengals QB add his name to a list featuring players like Eli Manning and Joe Flacco who have got hot at the right time? If he can carry this form into the postseason then that’s something every team in the AFC should be watching out for.

even Peyton Manning chokes sometimes... because his name isn't Brett Favre or Chuck Norris.

an older fan described the problem to me. "I've watched plenty of Bengals games, Kenny, Boomer, Carson had something Dalton does not. Dalton is strange to me, he seems to have some ability, but doesn't appear to have the guts any of the other good quarterbacks had. I suppose that makes him a good example of a gutless wonder"

he's a paper chumpion.

unchallenged, unproved, untried by fire.

he needs to reach down deep inside of his soul and pull out a can of whoop ass... I'm just afraid that when he does, he'll find that the refrigerator is empty.

If someone says that Carson "had guts" I would be inclined to disagree with that person...100%. Carson was a chump that refused to step up and lead the offense. One of the things some of the veterans noted about Andy when he came in was that he was trying to lead, despite being a rookie. Something, some players noted, had been missing from the offense, alluding to Palmer's inability to take control.

I think I've seen it. my dad had red hair and always complained that people were prejudice against red heads, I've always wanted to believe he was paranoid and the whole thing was in his head.

Overall he was still around low to mid 20's prior to last game, and in the 30's 3 games earlier. Consistency is still a big issue for him. The biggest difference is this season he has had 3-4 tremendous games. Fewer in the past.

The bottom 3 stats posted above are virtually the same or fluctuating.

The core issues are still there. I just hope we win this week and don't get stuck with KC in the first round.

Can't argue any of those points. The general trend is upward though, and that's what I was trying to show. He needs to be more consistent, especially on the road. There is hope, though.......

well, the trend the past 2 years was upwards, so I was hoping it would continue this year.
