I think this deserves its own thread.

I'm glad he signed for a lot less than the Pita contract. $4 million per year average is still pretty high, but it's also a below market value deal, so Mayhew did good in that sense.

Getting all of these holes filled now is going to give us a lot of flexibility in the draft at least...

Not a huge fan of Sir drops-a-lot. $4 Mil a year is too much IMO. Still, we could do a lot worse. The fact that we already have a pass catching TE and a blocking TE makes for a good mix with him as the third as he can do a bit of everything.

We will be drafting defense in round 1 most likely. My bet would be a LB. Not sure there are any left in FA. Outside chance we go with a DB too. LB is the biggest hole right now. We dont even have 3 NFL ready players at the position and no depth behind them. DB is not too much better but at least we have some depth there.

despite all our jokes about him, this is a really important signing. Now we don't have to waste a draft pick on a TE and BP was the best TE left on the market

Not a pettigrew fan. I was hoping he was going somewhere else.

Mayhew wanted Delmas back, he wanted Willie back, and he wanted Pettigrew back. Really appears like Mayhew has a difficult time letting his draft picks go.

Hard to argue. Taking a TE at 10 is basically the same thing as taking a WR, now we can scratch both off the list. Let's hope Fauria continues to improve.

It's like when you think you've woken up from a nightmare, but then realize that you haven't. That it was just another layer of the dream, and waking up is nowhere in sight.

who would you rather have at the TE position, given the pool of TE's that is/was out there

Pettigrew got less than I expected. $4 million per season ranks 15th among TEs, behind Delanie Walker.

Just about anybody. You play any tight end? In fairness to Brandon, he started to hang onto the ball a little better the final third of the season. Which promoted him from being a liability to being average. He's slow, his blocking is overrated, and he's still prone to drops, misses and ducks. For the production he gives - very little - that contract is a ridiculous. Especially for a team that's supposed to be strapped for cash. Linebackers around the NFC North are rejoicing this morning.

But hey, at least we're getting all those holes filled now.

I kinda wanted a new TE too, just to freshen things up (but not at 10). Same guys, hard not to expect same results.

He's a great blocker.

Just trying to stay positive.

That's the ticket LP. He's also under 30, played football last year and has been a starter in the last two years. Mayhew was just saving his best for last. We have $8.73 left in cap room right?
