I can't help but think back to Calipari's Memphis team with Derrick Rose. That team is another example of Cal having the much more talented team and blowing it.

That game was more about free throws than anything else. memphis missed five or six down the stretch that would have put the game away.

I wish they could go back through all sporting events and build a data base for each game that has ever been played, listing all the bad/missed officiated calls. I'm sure those results would have us all immediately stop watching/playing sports all together. I mean...really! Everyone could just pick up a controller and it's game on.

sorry...not directed at you Happi06, just a rant in general.

Officiating -- good and bad -- is part of the games. The only major sport I could see being totally "fixed" by automated systems is MLB. I think the NBA and NFL game are too fast paced and nuanced for computers to take over the officiating just yet. MLB, on the other hand, could be completely officiated by computers and would probably eliminate most/all bad calls. We are stuck with humans in the NFL and NBA for the foreseeable future.

No worries brother. For me it was interesting since I had no vested interest in either team, to sort of look through the lens unbiased. I'm pretty much always in the you lost because the other team was better/ you didnt play well enough category. That includes the Boys

Officiating always equals out. It did in the Championship, I sure didn't hear Bo Ryan complaining Saturday night. It equaled out on our Cowboys too. I think Dez caught the ball, no question, however, if the PI is called the week before in Detroit, Dallas may not have made it to GB anyway. JMO

Sorry but as a UK fan I just can't sit back and let the Cal bashing go on. A midling coach???? Do you remember 1996??? That was the best UK team I have seen in my days anyway. I remember they scored 88 in a half at LSu one night. For some reason Cals UMass team gave them fits. They beat them once and it was a really close game in the final 4. He had Camby.

When Tiger Woods was in his prime he didn't win every tournament. I think College BBall is a little like that - meaning it's a one shot deal. If you play average and another team plays great then you get beat. The best team doesn't always win. I watched UConn get waxed by 40 last yr but they cut the nets down when it counted. UK went through a murderers row of teams last year that would have beaten them 75 percent of the time to get to the final game.

As already mentioned- go back and watch that Kansas, Memphis game and tell me if Cal lost that. His players missed free throw after free throw down the stretch. Midling coaches don't get 9 high school All Americans to buy into a platoon system in basketball. I agree he recruits at a 10 level but as a coach he is damn good.

Coach K is as good as it gets and believe me he has lost a few too where he had the best team in the nation.

Now as far as the game the other night, let's look at it like we would a Cowboys game and look into every detail. Towns said after the game that he could never get mad at coach Cal for not going to him at the end of a game. ????? Cal says he did. How many games besides the ND game did we they go to Towns down the stretch??? Not many. It was mainly what everyone saw the other night-The Harrison's. He stayed on those guys all year about driving the basketball. They did. I don't blame it on them one bit. How many offensive rebounds did Towns get in the final 4 minutes and take it back out- 3 maybe 4. If Cal really wanted the ball in his hands why not go back up with it. Bottom line he went so what worked all year. He slowed it down and it finally failed. Yes I screamed at the TV to get the ball inside and disagreed with what they did but I can't blame them.

Finally, I'm not saying he is the best sideline coach but he is really, really good IMO and in college sports recruiting is a huge part of the job. Not sure who I would rather have than Cal. Maybe Brad Stevens. Maybe JG lol.

Jarntt- Boheim hate???? He also gave that loaded 96 team a fit

There are bad calls in every game. Those Canes have the biggest gripe IMO. It cost them a football national title. Officials are human . Teams overcome them all the time.

Of course they are are human. But just like it is OK to point out when players screw up, we can also point out when refs do. No one has said fire them or discipline them. I have always said complaining about refs is pointless and whining because it is an incredibly hard thing to ref a sporting event in real time at real speed. The point wasn't that they made a mistake or two, the point was that it was one of the worst officiated games I saw all year. I didn't care who won, but to let the refs off the hook or act as if they are above criticism in this case is kind of silly too.

LOL...have stick will poke

besides, Cal has been to the mountain top

I guess I should clarfiy. I meant that his defense of Cal reminded me of the defene of Romo, not that the two were the same in any other way. Re-reading it now I can see that the joke probably wasn't as apparent as I thought.

I would have loved to have seen a Kent-Duke final. I would have flown out to RomotoOwens house (he probably wouldn't let me in). To see him have to watch Romo in the stands in his Duke Jersey cheering everytime something went against Kentucky or watching him have to see Romo teary-eyed if Kent won would be priceless!!!

If Cal didn't win with Anthony Davis and that UK team, then he was never going to win a title. Anthony Davis is the best player in the NBA in an era where Lerbon is still in his prime.

It seems inevitable that Cal will win again, due to the fact that he gets the premier talent every year. At the end of the day Calipari has proven himself to be nothing special as an in game coach and strategist.

I guess the only question is will Cal stay at UK long enough to get that next title -- or will Cal leave UK in a bad spot and jump to the NBA when the NCAA catches up to him. It won't be long before there is an investigation into Calipari's recruiting, it's happened at every other stop.

Yes it was pretty tough to watch Romo in that Duke garb throughout the season. Not a Tennessee fan, but it was also bad to see Wit shun his former school and wear the same crap. I could understand ROdgers pulling for the Badgers. As far as Cal- my affinity towards him isn't close to that of Romo's. Like Romo however, Cal gets blamed more than he should and when he does win it is because he has superior talent. Ha, Coach K has plenty of talent too. Saban has a top 2 or 3 class every yr in football. In Cals 6 yrs at UK, his most talented team got beat in the final 8. He has been to the final 4 for times.

Like I said - I will give him a 10 for recruiting and a 7-8 as a coach. The only possible one that could have those numbers is Coach K. Believe me though, I am tired of the one and dones. I'm ready for the Brad Stevens era to begin.

@ Jarntt- the Boheim hate still baffles me.

We will see. I think if he was doing something wrong though he would have been caught by now. It's been 6 yrs. he gets the number 1 or 2 class every yr.

I have heard plenty of people say fire them and they should never be allowed to do a game again. Bottom line UK was up 4 with the ball and chose to run the clock instead of play. Bad calls yes, but better execution could have won the game. I'm sure there were missed calls in the Super Bowl too, but the refs didn't decide to throw from the one yard line. The refs didn't drop the onside kick for GB. Refs play a part no doubt, but execution plays the biggest

I don't hate Boeheim at all. During the game he does a lot of questonable things. One of the most important aspects of being a College coach is recruiting and both he and Cal are great at that.
