The Skins are going to wait to see what the market offers him. Then they will decide if they keep him or not. Riley is not the best ILB in FA so the longer this takes the better b/c his price will go way down.

I kinda hope he goes some place else and gets his payday at this point. Not because I think he is a bad or subpar player. But because he should be someplace where he is appreciated. this front office and fan base are willing to give guys like Fred Davis a million chances because of their "potential", but guys like Riley, Doughty and a whole list of others who simply DO THEIR JOBS are never valued over the guys with flash. So if he comes back Im fine with it. But I realize that aside from being a pro bowl player he will never be appreciated by this fan base. And even some guys in that group still arent really appreciated by this fan base or team.

If he's trying to get more than 4 million/year, then he's overvaluing himself. We value Riley...we want him back. But we don't want him back at 7 mil/season because he's not worth that. There are at least 20 ILBs that are better in the NFL and more in this draft will be better.

I would have to disagree. This is likely his one shot to get a deal that will take care of him and his for the rest of his life. Why shouldnt he shoot for a deal on par with what guys like Ellerbe got last year?? And if there are so many better players, I hope we get one of them in here so every one will be happy. But if he leaves, and we sign Spikes at $6 million a year, there should be ZERO bitching when it turns out that we couldnt just plug any old ILB in and be fine. Deal??

Like I said dude... for his sake I hope he goes else where at this point. Same for Rak Actually. They both deserve better than this fan base. I was actually mad at Champ for leaving, but now ten years later I totally get it.

oh lord have mercy . we appreciate riley but he isnt worth 7 mil a year . i fully expect riley to test the market and that is 100% fine . he should get what he can get . i just dont think the redskins need to pay it

i still feel he will sign with the redskins

but whining like a whore about how we can never replace him is simply foolish

Its not a matter of IF we can replace him. Its a matter of SHOULD we. And I have made my statement. You all bitch and moan about how easily a guy can be replaced. All this fan base ever wants is the over hyped primadonna players. Guys that simply do their jobs are always the ones being called for being replaced.

So I said, I hope Riley goes some place that actually does appreciate him because he deserves better than a low ball offer considering that he was basically the lowest paid starting ILB in the division and possibly the confrence last year. Yet he still wasnt good enough for most Skins fans.

So have we seen any real info on what he is asking? I've see $7M speculated, but haven't seen anything concrete. I'd be willing to sign him for $5M, maybe a bit more. There is a value to continuity.

well you can speak to the rest of the fan base shark but i have not advocated signing primadonna free agents

yes he deserves a raise . i am not sure a 600% raise is due him

i see riley as an avg ILB at this point with the potential to push a pro bowl or 2 . so he should be paid like it

perry riley made 1.3 mil last season . are you going to tell me that a raise to 5 mil is out of line ? that is almost a 400% raise

I believe that in the case of riley you structure a deal where he has the ability to make his $7 million a year if thats what he is asking for. I believe its an insult to tell him well we only think you are worth $X amount and thats all we will pay you. Because if he does perform to a pro bowl level (which apparently that isnt good enough for some around here) no one is going to want to give him a raise are they??

Ellerbe is much better than Riley. Perry Riley was only ranked 27th in tackles last season (50 behind Burfict). He had 1 INT...He had zero FFs. He's not a playmaker.

And thats apparently what its all about right?? So like I said, if we let him walk and bring in a playmaker, there will be no bitching if that playmaker isnt making plays for the Skins right?? Thats all Im asking. You guys have me convinced. I hope he walks for his sake, and we bring in yet another playmaker. Because really we have done soo well the past 15 or so years bringing in other peoples playmakers.

By the way, its convenient that you left out that Riley had 3 sacks and nine passes defensed last year. While Ellerbe had one and five respectively and also had zero forced fumbles. So lets not make it like Ellerbe was this vastly superior ILB to Riley.

I'm with Shark on this one. Pay the man and move on to other positions of need.

I would hate to lose Perry. Those mentioned above who are better its really not about whose better (they're all capable) but who's put in position to be better. Different schemes, playing time, other players helping them to look better, there are alot of reasons why someone has better numbers than someone else. Skills a factor but not as much as you think when it boils down to everything thats involved in the making of a player. Nah, Riley needs to be on this team. We need him.

Like I said dude, I hope you are right and we bring in some one who is THAT good. But when we do, if by chance they are not vastly superior.. you dont get to bitch.. even a little. Agreed??

Pay the guy 5 mill with performance incentives. That's fair. And it has been said before, the more we vastly overpay, the less $$$ we have to address other positions with quality players.
