It's kinda a double edge sword at this point. The Skins have been drafting real well of late. I would hate to see those guys blown out. Bruce is the reason we can't attract quality FAs save for Collins who looked up to Sean Taylor.

In short, I don't think he can, but if he could, I would hope the new guy would be able to recognize the guys who are assets and let go of the rest.

Not only can Snyder do it, but can he find this type of comprehensive HC that is willing to come and work for him? Wasn't that Shanahan? How did that work out?

Mike Lombardi is spot on. I would have loved to seen Snyder and Bruce try to work their crap on Vine.

The sad thing is Snyder could have started his ownership with a coach of that caliber if he had let Schottenheimer do what needed to be done. He and Bruce sabotage the Shanahan era.

You were reading my mind. Honestly, I don't think our head coaching position, when it becomes available, offers a very attractive environment to any high caliber coach with our ownership and entire front office being what it is and what it has been for many years.

How could it? After all, this is the place where head coaches go to watch their careers die. You realize that not one HC under Snyder has ever been a head coach again. In fact, most never coach in the NFL again, period.

No, Dan will not have his pick of the litter. He is going to have to take a shot on another "up and coming", the next McVay. I have no idea who that is, but there has to be 2 or 3 out there that think they are ready. But you can't turn over all the keys to one unproven just yet. So, unfortunately, snyder/allen will have their tentacles all over the guy. Wonder how that will turn out......

Marty coached at San Diego after the Redskins. They have been a hot bed for assistants who became HCs.

Your right. I stand corrected. He is the only one. Unfortunately this FO can't seem to keep these young assistants or see the potential in them. Which gives me pause to wonder how they are supposed to see the potential in ones they don't see every day.

Oh what a tangled web we weave. AJ Smith the GM who Marty had a falling out with which ended Marty's NFL career eventually came here as a "consultant" under Bruce Allen. He was only here a couple of years. In the Redskins FO is a guy that gets credit for a lot of the work done in the draft …. Kyle Smith.

Great wording with "Oh what a tangled web we weave".

one of the reasons i like o'connell as our next hire . he is young , up and coming and he is familiar with our staff on defense ( tomsula etc )

i think it lessons the turmoil and would make the transition to winning quicker

if you hire a new HC out of college or another assitant from the NFL then you end up with the Yr one evaluation , year 2 getting " his players " yr 3 possible gelling , yr 4 regular contenders

now if you want to go down that path fine but the same group of posters who wanted shanny gone and now want gruden gone , who also told me 4 yrs was worth the wait better hold up their end

all too often people were calling for shanny's head year one , same with gruden

so if you have GDS ( gruden derangement syndrome ) and you pull the same shit as when you got ZDS (zorn derangement syndrome ) and SDS ( shanny derangement syndrome ) on this next HC i will call you out on it everyday all day just like i did with the ABC crowd and the ASS trade jock riders

i do believe O' connell will cut 3 tears off a rebuild andthat is why i lean to him

I know nothing about O'connell so I can't comment on his capabilities. But another benefit of him is that he would most likely keep the same offensive scheme. This is good for the development of Haskins. One of the drawbacks of changing HCs is that your young QB now has to learn a new offensive scheme, setting his development back.

I would have to say this is a very inexperienced guy. Doesn't mean he can't coach but his resume is pretty light.

One year as Clevelands QB coach
One year as member of San Fran's offensive staff
One year as QBs coach in Washington
One year as QBs coach and passing game coordinator in Washington
One game as OC in Washington

We have also let guys go that have become HCs so maybe I am wrong but I think this guy could also be a puppet in Snyder and Allen's hands.

If that's the case, then just stay with Gruden. Dump Manusky. Promote the ball boy to DC. It all won't make a difference anyway as long as Snyder/Allen pull the strings.

Lombardi: Dan Snyder's failure to build a culture killing Redskins

For those of us old enough to remember Vince being hired you might also remember players commenting when they heard that they were going to have to work extra hard.

Sadly Vince was only here for a year but he turned around the culture and had winning season. Something not seen in Washington for awhile.
