It was actually the intentional grounding play where he took off his helmet on the field and screamed at the ref.

And yes, that should have been a 15 yard penalty.

If you watch the video Smart posted about the controversial td play, McGloin took his helmet off on the field after that play also......So he did it twice, and didn't get flagged either time even though it's supposed to be an automatic penalty and you have to be out of the game for one play.....

In the highlighted circle the ball has already been knocked from his hands by the LB's knee.

Clearest non-touchdown I've ever seen.

Even if it was knocked out by the knee (and just to be clear, it wasn't), the ball crosses the plane. You only need to get the tip to the line. It clearly is to the line.

From our view the ball gets to the line........but beings as the camera was 50 feet away from the ball, how can we tell 100% for sure if he has the ball secured in his hands??

What if it started to come loose but just stayed between his hands until it hit Santos' knee??

I mean, if there was a zoomed in view of that ball secured right in his hands, I'd agree it is easy to overturn.

I don't care who says that camera is on the goal line, that is a shoddy angle.

Look at it, the refs straddle directly over the goal line. Look how far to the right the official is in the picture. That is not a direct sideline view, and you are a dumbass if you think it is.

Shoddy ass angle and shoddy ass reporting by the announcers to say it was a perfect angle.

just to make sure everyone knows... all the ball has to do is get the nose to the chalk of the goal line.... nothing has to cross.

I know this........

I'm just saying, how do we know the ball isn't already coming loose and is just between his hands until it gets hit by his knee?

I understand the likelihood of that is not great, but that is the problem with this "inconclusive evidence" shit..........it basically has to be jumping out of the TV hitting you in the face obvious in order to make any sort of confirmation or overturn.

It's just hard to overturn that based on the camera being far enough away that you can't tell 100% for sure if he's already letting go of the ball, or if the knee is 100% what caused the ball to come loose....

Nebraska won by 9. Just to make sure you know.

It's not like this was a last second call. Nebraska was pretty much having its way with PSU's defense at that point.

I think it did cross, but it's not some clear cut evidence......you look at it slow motion as JJM pointed out.....the ball hitting the NU defenders knee is what knocked it out, and his knee is clearly short of the goal line.....

If it was called a TD on the field, there is no way it would of been overturned to a fumble......Nebraska is lucky it was called a fumble, and the video evidence wasn't clear enough to overturn it.....

The LB's knee was "Out of the End Zone" when contact was made with the ball jarring it loose.

You were not there on the field like the refs were.
You did not get all the video angles that the replay officials did.
Nothing was taken away from Penn St because nothing had been awarded to Penn St.

At no point was there ever a TD called. There was nothing ever overturned. "The Ruling on the Field Stands". ie..We do not have definitive evidence to overturn.

We know that.

Just because the ball and the hand are next to each other doesn't mean he has hold of it. Contact with the LB's knee was made outside the chalk. Look where the LB's knee is before contact.

Outside the chalk.

It's too close to overturn.

This call is made all the fucking time, (1st downs etc.) it's just that it happened to be in the end zone and PSU players/fans are especially whiny this year.

"The Ruling on the Field Stands" could essentially mean "we think we fucked up the call on the field...."

It blows my mind how many people don't understand the "inconclusive evidence" part of the review.

I agree. I think it was probably a bad call. But shit that was a tough call to make in a bang-bang situation like that.

Anyone who has eyes and a brain that functions that quickly would have to be the most gifted person alive.

I think to everyone it looked like a fumble before we actually saw the replay. Hell, before I saw the replay I thought he fumbled it at the 1 yard line.

It's just bad luck for Penn State. Bad luck that there wasn't a better view of it. Bad luck that it looked like the ball was maybe 5 centimeters into the chalk before coming loose, but couldn't be for sure. Bad luck that Santos knee just happened to be where it was.

I mean it's all by chance.

Except that when the guy's foot is on the far side of the end zone line, and I know how thick the end zone line is, and I see the angle is his leg is at, it is really clear where the leg first touched the ball. If you can't see otherise, you are just seeing what you want to see.

Or more likely, you are just trolling me.

He shouldn't have fumbled the ball period. There was no reason to extend his hands at that point. He should have played smart been happy with the yards he gained and lived for another play. If you want to say the game was decided by thay one play then you are wrong. You had 4 quarters to score more points then us and you didn't do that. Now grow up be a man an accept the fact you didn't get the job done and we did.

Exactly "The Ruling on the Field Stands" means "We don't have conclusive evidence to overturn".

If it had been ruled a TD initially, it still would have been "The Ruling on the Field Stands" and they would not have overturned the TD.

And his arm is clearly what knocks it out. The view at :42 makes it abundantly clear.

Watch that slowly.

Let's be real clear here.............

I don't just see whatever the hell I want to see. After the game I made a thread about this and immediately apologized to Penn State fans as I felt bad that they had to deal with that call. It's really really bad luck!

But right when I saw the replay, I said outloud "they will not be able to overturn that.......guaranteed."

It had nothing to do with the fact that I am a Husker fan........I just knew that they would determine there is not enough evidence. It's one of those rules that most fans don't realize how bad it is until it actually hurts their team.
