Damnit :( this couldn't wait until after the finals?

He's still coaching in the Finals.

Honestly they should have gone with JVG if it was between the two. I don't get all the love Gentry gets. He's had several chances and outside of like 1 good season with Phoenix, he's a pretty subpar coach. I thought he had found the perfect role lately as an assistant coach that specializes in offense. He's not HC material.

Yeah exactly. Made the playoffs twice in 12 years as coach and I think he only had 2 or 3 winning seasons. There are so many coaches available who I would have hired before him

Coaches are essentially worthless in the NBA

Even Popovich, Jackson, Riley, and Auerbach would not win jackshit without loaded rosters

Heck, we got two rookie coaches in the darn finals.

Except you can visibly see the difference Kerr has made so you point is basically mute.

Indeed. Same as Jackson yet they're better in every way. That's called coaching
It's easier to coach when you have top caliber players. Just saying.

of course adding a finally Andrew Bogut, Shawn Livingston, and Leandro Barbosa had nothing to do with it

The Warriors would have arrived a bit sooner had Bogut been healthy

He makes a huge diffrence

Not really. It's still just as hard, maybe even harder if you've got two or three top guys with big egos. What top talent actually does is mask a coach's weaknesses. That's what confuses people and have them write off coaching. A player like Lebron James can hid a lot of weaknesses, but coaching matters.

And also, its a stupid thing to say a coach wouldn't win jack without talented rosters. No shit. That's an empty statement that validates nothing. It takes BOTH to win championships.

He was healthy all season when they won 51 games. So again coaching made a HUGE difference

I don't get why people keep saying this.

Can you win without a great/good coach? Yes, but you have to have loads of talent. It's obviously possible to win without a good coach but...

A great coach can win with a bunch less and obviously if given great talent win at a far better clip.

Coaching matters. It isn't the be all end all, but it matters

I liked this for the hilarity. The accuracy is off, Horns. But the hilarity is grade A.

Van Gundy was never a real deal. If he didn't come back to coach the Thunder he wasn't coming back.

I'd take Alvin Gentry over Doc Rivers any damn day.
