Although I could see one or both of Cahill & McCarthy traded in the offseason. Cahill's salary in 2014 will jump to $7.9 mil & McCarthy's will be $10.25 mil. Removing either one of those salaries would be more than enough to sign a +closer.

That's probably gonna be the most interesting thing about this offseason. Right now we have Corbin, Miley, Delgado, Cahill, McCarthy, and Skaggs all ready to go. Can maybe even include Hudson in there eventually, although I wouldn't count on him right now. Throw in Spruill, Holmberg and Bradley all close to being ready and you have some real decision making to do in the future.

I could see the Rotation starting 2014 with Corbin, Cahill/McCarthy, Miley, El Gato, & Bradley/Spruil/Skaggs(depending on their spring performance). Unless Bradley just WOWs in spring, I can see KT holding him back till after the June Super 2 date.

The guy has an attitude problem. "Greatness" is wasted on guys with characters issues! I hope he keeps it up!

I think Cahill is more tradeable than McCarthy at this point... unless Brandon really turns it up a notch to close out the regular season. Trading one of them would be great and it could open up room to sign Munjica (who I prefer) if not then one of Balfour, Benoit, or Rodney.

Mujica would be the preferred choice for me as well. I don't like Rodney & is Benoit really a closer. I think he is just a "guy" that Detroit needed to close their games.

I agree. Munjica and Balfour are ideal... Rodney would be risky and Benoit is more of a set up man, but I'd prefer him in the ninth over Ziegler. Anyway we can strengthen the back end of the bullpen helps.

I think it all depends on how the season finishes. If we miss the playoffs or lose in the 1 game playoff & fail to unload salary, I don't see them signing a +closer. Remember, we will be bidding against NYY & Boston for the limited amount a +closers available.

Btw, what is up with all this space between the signatures and the buttons at the bottom of posts?

KT needs to have a masterplan for the bullpen. In a good pen, I'd say unload Bell ASAP...but with the issues this bullpen has had, I think he's been (arguably) more valuable than Tony Sipp, David Hernandez, and Putz. Thatcher hasn't been impressive since he got here.

Love Collmenter. Like Ziegler (not sure as a closer, but he has a role). Will Harris is solid. De La Rosa has been fantastic in his brief sample.

But with relievers you never know. Hernandez could be lights out next year and then horrifying the year after that. One of the tougher parts of a team to assess for the future for GMs. That's what KT gets paid the big bucks for though.
