with numbers like these the Tigers must be jumping for joy to be rid of him!

He's terrible. Picked a guy off first in his debut a few years back. It's been downhill ever since. The bullpen is the weak point for the Tigers. So when they trade a reliever, it tells you something about the guy. Not that he makes any difference in this trade. Everyone seems to have got something they needed in exchange for something they didn't.

Tell that to people who can remember watching Mark Belanger play for Earl Weaver's Orioles.

As a kid, I played shortstop. As a kid growing up in Queens, my idol was Buddy Harrelson. My next favorite SS was Mark Belanger.

The difference is that in those days there was much less emphasis on the bat if you played short. It was a "have glove, will travel" era in baseball. Nowadays, there is much more emphasis on offense. I still think there is room for defensive specialists, but it almost has to be on a team that already has a great offense.

I wish Iggy well. His range will definitely be needed playing next to Miggy in Detroit.
Some will call me old-fashioned, but I still don't think there should be much emphasis
on hitting for middle infielders.

Pedroia's bat is gravy, it's his fielding that I like best.

Corner infielders do need to be hitters, but shortstops and 2Bs don't.

Catchers get their power from all the squatting they do, but even at that position
there should be more emphasis on defense than offense, IMO.

everyone loves the long ball though, which is why we have the game we have, the only thing I wonder about with losing Iggy, which has been said also, is that we lose a guy with MLB experience and are waiting for a wonderkid who hasn't played at all...what if Bogie pulls a hammie and is never the same again? It's that do you want a dollar today or $2 tomorrow...but economics teaches us to take that dollar today as it is worth more.

Not like I have any say in it though, it's a done deal, just want it to work out and for us to crush the Rays.

When MY team hits a long ball, I love it, but I DON'T love being overly dependent on it.

I don't think it's any coincidence that Earl Weaver used to talk about "pitching, defense, and 3 run homers" in that exact order.

Pitching and defense are more dependable than slugging.
