Pretty sure that was the exact number I said it would take to keep him. I was close on Allen.

$60m guaranteed means his cap hit is $15m a year, yes?

That’s down fron the $19m cap hit the franchise tag would cost this year?

So…… Payne is signed long term AND the team saved some money, correct?

Asking the board capologists for confirmation.

That is far too much money to have invested in DTs.
I don't know the details of the deal, but it appears to not be a team friendly deal at all. He wanted to get paid and he did.

On the surface, we now have less to address the major problem on this team: the offensive line.

We will have a heck of a defense though!

Forgive me for being confused and not jumping up and down about the deal. We are putting way too much money into DTs. It is reported this is the 2nd highest contract handed out to a DT. Again, i want to see the annual cap number. On the surface, it's too much. Curious on the full details of the contract. The devil is in the details.

We also just burned a 2nd round pick unnecessarily for mathis.

I'm no cap guy but I'm certain it won't be the 18.9 he was scheduled to count for. Allen was 9m last year. We'll see.

I would assume so. Everything is dependent upon structure.

Allen’s contract was 4 years, 72 million with only 36 million guaranteed.

His cap hits were 9.5, 21.5, 21.5, 23 million.

I expect Payne to come in this season around 10-15 million depending on how much they want to push forward.

I am sure Dad will come on and applaud the contract. Not saying that as a negative dad.

Sometimes I question whether or not people understand how bad dead cap space is. It is basically like interest on a credit card. It is money that you have but don’t get to spend on you.

Pocic needs to be main priority now I don't see Schmitz being there at our pick in the 2nd round

In four years it will be less than many others.

I wouldn't call Mathis a waste yet. He is depth and maybe a future starter in a year or two.

To trade I guess?

Allen and Payne will hopefully be starting for the next 4 years. Like I said, we have excellent starters and depth on the Dline. We have neither on the OLine.

I think the mathis pick was an unnecessary pick. You don't draft 2nd rounders to re-enforce your strongest unit on the field. I feel we have been careless with early round picks then last 2 years. We needleessly gave up a 3rd for Wentz and a DT in Mathis with our 2nd. The lack of strategy is my concern. Early round picks should be valued, not treated carelessly. They should be the core and lifeblood of the team. Rivera treats them as if they are worthless.

Hey man, if you don’t have a qb then you need a good D line to counter the opposing qb :noidea:

Have to agree to disagree. I am still fine with the idea of the Mathis pick. Of course he played little before being hurt so how good he is not determined yet. You have to rotate players, quality depth is important. There were a lot of negative opinions about where and why Mathis and Robinson were picked. So far one has proved to be a great pick.

We now know Scherff wanted out so there was nothing that could be done. Hopefully a new owner will fix some of those kinds of issues. No one signed Flowers last year at any point. Must have been a reason. I don't know what. I was for keeping him. The league was not.

We all know the OLine needs help. I would look for a FA signing or two after the big wave of signings and of course the draft.

Next up Kam Curl.
