In 1976 my uncle was trying to develop a film based on the Paul McCartney & Wings song “Band On The Run” and had a meeting with Paul set up. My uncle was babysitting my brother and I for a couple weeks when my parents went to Rio for some couples counseling. They were supposed to be back on Wednesday but their plane was delayed for a week so my uncle took my brother and I to the meeting. On the way there we stopped at McDonald's for dinner and a convenience store for some candy. I bought some Fun Dip. When we went to Paul and Linda’s hotel suite my brother and I were told to stay quiet and watch TV while the adults talked in the other room. I opened my Fun Dip and found a Red Wings sticker inside. Getting my brother’s attention I laughed and acted like I was going to put the sticker on a guitar that was in the room. He dared me to so I did. Suddenly Linda sneaked in the room! I was scared she caught me but instead she was focused on my brother’s McDonald's bag. She took out a $100 and offered my brother it for a cheeseburger, he gladly accepted and she wolfed it down before Paul could catch her. Well the meeting ended and the movie never got made, I am not sure why. A few days later my mother returned with my new dad, Gabriel – and my father returned home with Mariana and my uncle went off to meet Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods about making “Billy Don’t Be A Hero” into a movie. My brother used his $100 to fund a pron collection that saw me through some lean years as a teen. And I guess Paul saw the sticker I put on his guitar and liked it because he kept it there.
What can I say? A six year old kid giving it the old college try...and it worked!!!

Back in 1976 I was working security for some bicentennial celebrations and there was some worry that the Paul McCartney imposter was sent from the future to wreak havok on the festivities. I was undercover as a security guard and I placed that sticker on his guitar as he he came through customs. Under it was an RFID chip so we could track his moves. We thought he was going to meet with revolutionaries but he spent the whole time meeting with Pat Harrington, his close friend (Schneider from One Day At A Time) so we cleared him. Funny story, turns out that by that time it was the real Paul again, having switched back in 1972.

What can you say? A futuristic time traveler giving the old "beam me up" a try... And it worked!
