I guess agree to disagree. I think if they did the zone read option with a pass built in that gives them 3 options of Lynch up the middle, Wilson to the outside, or Wilson rolling out and passing. That to me is pretty difficult to defend and even if he does get sacked they have the timeout that allows them to still substitute if need be and figure out where to go from there. Yes it forces them more into a passing situation but I think the risk is worth it in a sack is still better than the interception.

Combining this with play action to Lynch could have been deadly. The odds of Wilson being sacked for a loss are quite slim. Running Lynch up the middle had a better chance of success than the Patriots getting a sack on a Wilson roll out.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that during the season, Lynch ran the ball from the 1 yard line 5 times and scored only 1 TD. Carroll knew that Lynch had problems sticking it into the end zone. As Randymon said, Browner was 1 on 1 with Kearse and couldn't be pushed back. Watching that play at least 100 times, Browner allowed Butler to take the perfect angle and get to the ball less than a half second before Lockette.

You have to agree, if the play had worked and Lockette had scored, Carroll would be a genius for not running Lynch. The oppositie happened and Carroll is a fool for not using Lynch As Belichick said in an interview several days after the game, "Coaches make decisions that they believe give their team the best chance to win. Pete's play calling was not suspect, it was solid. Butler was in the right place at the right time. He practiced that exact play the entire week before the game and never once came close to making an interception. Can you tell me how he did it in the Super Bowl?" "Games are won and lost on the field. Coaches don't play in the games."

The Patriots sacked Wilson three times in the Super Bowl, more than any other time during the season or playoffs. They were getting very close to him all day. That and they were doing an excellent job of pinching off the outside escape routes.

I started rewatching the game this morning and I've been able to get through the first quarter. Lynch has been stopped for a loss three times. I'm not saying he would have lost yardage if he had run the ball, but the Patriots have had good angles and solid hits on him. I have to finish watching it again and will try to critique where he was most successful and against what defense.

Everything is better than the interception. That is however, why they watch the tapes!!!!!
