Who else does NE have on the interior? Making sure Brady doesn't have to move from his point and making sure the run game works is just about the most important things to the New England Patriots. They must have someone good to replace him, right?

Interesting. Trading Mankins only two days after cutting Tommy Kelly, Will Smith, and David Anderson is intriguing. Suggests to me that they are feeling pretty good about themselves.

Dumping Mankins salary could mean they are working on getting Revis extended.

Yeah but Logan gave up 11 sacks last season ,so to pay a mid 30 yr old 10 million wasnt good biz sense. They picked up a 2nd year TE that had 60 catches with a TB QB. Some people have compared this kid to Aaron. So if Gronk stays healthy, they can have a 2 TE set like before

This. I think they think Mankins best years are behind him and supposedly they have a lot depth at OL.

Still Mankins had an attitude you wanted on the line. I'll miss him.

Is Tim Wright any good???

I don't like this trade, but there must be a reason BB did this.

at least 2 reasons. Mankins high salary/age and wants more talent next to Gronk or someone that can catch like him.

brady just keeps quiet,...I think [he still thinks] HE'LL be cut too [lol].

Looking at Mankins contract...it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be...most of the money remaining is salary...looks as if he can be cut w/o much damage to TB's cap...$6.2mil is a big cap hit for G, but in this pass happy league, I can see them trying to clear up space to lock up Revis.

Brady...considering what Manning got in DEN at his advanced age....I don't think he's worried to much, but you're right...mums the word...lol

Do they have a suitable replacement? The Jets and Bills may not be real threats to the division but they have very effective front 7s so I don't understand weakening the o-line.

Josh Kline who started some games last year. Also have a few other back ups ready and they drafted 3 OL this year.

I like the way Mankins played but I also like opening up 6 million in cap space to secure Revis to a long term deal...

I don't like this trade, but there must be a reason BB did this.

It is a typical Patriots move. Let go of a vet while he still has trade value and create cap space. The only difference... now BB is playing with Brady's protection in addition to having an effective run game to open up the passing game.

IMO, which is worth nothing, tinkering with the o-line this close to the season is a risky proposition.

Another poster make a good point about the Patriots cupcake schedule. Those first 3 games are essentially bye weeks so the line will have time to gel before they play the tougher, mediocre teams.

I see this move being a bigger issue in the run game more so than the pass game. Mankins was an average pass blocker but made his money with his run blocking. I don't think they can replace that kind of talent. I understand freeing up cap space to resign guys like Revis but I just wonder at the cost of what? Does this mean the run game begins a slow decline? Does this mean more hits on Brady up the middle? We shall see what happens though.
