But to your topic, I heard that the deal is close to being done. I just am not sure how he improves the Pats though. Unless Pats fans like you have started thinking of him as an elite DB starting 1 pm EST.

Our #1 corner is Malcom Butler who, while beloved for winning the Superbowl, has 7 games as a starter.
Our #2 corner is Logan Ryan who went to Rutgers like Devin McCourty so he must be good right?
(He's actually has 3 interceptions this season, so he may not completely stink)

Our #3/slot corner is some guy.

The rest are on IR or so bad they were let go.

On the other hand there have been examples of deals not getting done due to teams missing the deadline for silly reasons. Like the Von Miller stuff.

As I said the money side of it was going to be the bigger issue in my opinion. No deals other than Broncos getting Vernon Davis seem to have happened.

Again I think you are thinking of baseball where exceptions to the deadline are allowed. The NFL has a very hard dead line which is why so many deals get done very last minute as they know a minute after and it doesn't get done.
