“It is standard procedure for us to hire a private police escort for occasional team practices off-site, for example our annual Varsity Bears practice, or for team travel to and from the airport for away games,”

I don't see the issue.

“Team” for an individual that nobody would spot this is a joke. Sit in traffic like every other person who has to go to work

“Team” for an individual that nobody would spot this is a joke.

#1 - The week they did this was following his 4 misses. He was a huge subject of talk and controversy in Chicago.

#2 - I am fairly certain he had O'Donnell and Scales with him to snap/hold for at least one of those practices.

#3 - It is still a team function and falls into protocol. They don't plan these things on the fly, there's a way that they do this stuff. This seems to be how it is done.

#4 - We don't know the time deadlines that had to be met with his practice. It's quite possible he had a limited window to get there, practice and then report back. Which could have been compromised by hitting traffic.

I would actually be willing to bet that it had a lot to do with time.

#5 - If your boss offered to pay for you to have a police escort through downtown Chicago traffic for a 40 mile drive each way - you are a god damn liar if you were to say that you'd turn it down. The Bears can afford to pop for the escort and make the odd scheduling of an off-site practice for one individual more convenient for both the team and the player. So they did it...

You don't know the full context of this, it's completely freaking irrelevant and I find your anger/irritation to be very odd. Yes, these guys have better day-to-day lives and more privileges than us. Is this a shock? You have more privileges than many others in the world too. In fact, probably most people in the world would find some of the privileges you and I have to be "a joke".

This is beyond a non-story. "Athlete goes to practice"... *fart noise*
