I hate shifts in baseball these days. That blooper by Kemp was also a factor... Any othet time that would be a popout to cano.Just shit away that lead. That error by Paxton ends up being huge
The shift is effective because hitters so rarely beat it. Pretty simple. It's not some abstract thing. Never like shifts and never will. Way too many factors in the bottom of the 1st that led to 6 runs.
