It's about branding and promoting the conference.

Big Ten - Chicago Suburb
ACC - North Carolina
SEC - Alabama
Big 12 - Dallas suburb

You always go to a place you want to promote. It doesn't need to be downtown, it's why the Big 12 and Big Ten went to the burbs.

What interaction are recruits going to have with the conference office?

Also, LOL @ saying the P12 needs to put the conference in the biggest market, and then listing the SEC HQ in Alabama as if that helps your case.

Who is the premier program in the SEC? Who do they want to promote?

The two are not related. There is no reason for the conference office to be in either SF or LA. They can promote every team from whereever the office is.

There's a reason every other conference has put their HQ in their largest media market OR by the program(s) they want to promote. The two are indeed related. If they could do it from wherever, people would go to a remote area with cheap land.

The conference has done a fine job of promoting Oregon despite the distance.

Oregon has done a good job promoting themselves. They have one of the best marketing departments out there. But they need a presence in SoCal to continue to recruit at an elite level.

Ok, since you seem to be having a tough time with this, I'll help you out.

What specific action steps would the conference be able to take that they are not able to do currently if they were in Southern California to aid recruiting efforts?

When the PAC 12 is creating content for the PAC 12 Network they will have:

1) Access to the #1 place in the world when it comes to creating content to watch
2) Access to a lot of former players and coaches that live in the area
3) Access to two members of your conference. One is historically the best football program, the other is historically the best basketball program.
4) Ability to work with ESPN (who has a major studio in LA)

Those are just a few

1 - is irrelevant in this day and age.
2 - There's plenty of PAC players all over the conference
3 - You get this benefit in Northern California as well
4 - The conference partners with ESPN as it is on a regular basis, as do all of the P5 conferences.

Wrong on so many counts. You should let all the conference commissioners know they are making bad decisions and that you’ve got it figured out

Aren't you the one claiming the PAC needs to move to LA?

My point was the LA metro area would be a good location for the PAC headquarters. Suggesting they should move to Sacramento is embarrassing. Even LS knows that’s a bad idea

There's plenty of places between the Bay Area and Sac that would be quite affordable, yet accessible.

There are plenty affordable places in the metro areas if you go further out. It just won't be downtown.

He should have taken the two Okie schools when they asked to join and let Texas figure it out from there. Not taking the two Okie schools was his biggest fvckup to date.
Okie St. makes Oregon look like Harvard when it comes to academics. The schools like Furd and UCLA were massively against adding Ok st and TTU.

I'm glad the pac16 never happened. Texas would of eventually started demanding to control everything like they always do and probably would have been responsible for breaking up the conf in 8 to 10 years.

That might be the nicest thing you've ever said about Oregon. I'm so proud.

Isn't he the one that set up the crap tv deals and lousy bowl tie ins?

Those cost the conference money, but more importantly, they cost the conference exposure. Kids don't want to play where they aren't going to be on tv a lot.

One of the reasons that USC virtually always recruits well, even when we're down, is because we're the 1 PAC school that consistently gets shown on national tv. At the very least, USC/ND is almost always a national broadcast.

But hey, Larry Scott gave us "PAC After Dark" so that we can have games starting when everyone on the East Coast and in the Midwest are headed to bed and people on the West Coast are falling asleep before the game is over. Yay!!
Most of those bowls were already affiliated to the pac. If anything pac bowls got a bit better under scott
