Well lots of things went wrong there but Slovis did throw for more yards than Herbert and just as many TDs but two more INTs
Herbert was 21-26 for 225 while Slovis was 31-57 and 264. i mean sure he through for more but more than 2x as many throws to only get 39 more yards?

He had a terrible game vs Oregon. His YPA was something like 4.7.

He was also a freshman in his 8th career start.

Oregon had a good defense and I'm sure they showed him some things he hadn't seen before.

Plus, in the 2nd quarter, the wheels came off for the entire team and he spent most of the rest of the game trying to play catch up. He forced a lot of throws that game.

He still completed 56% of his passes for 267 yds and 3 tds that game, so it wasn't horrible.

But those 3 picks were killers.

Last year Oregon was a much better team than USC. Slovis was throwing a lot because they were behind. When you take the whole year Slovis was damn good.

im not saying he didnt have a good year
but to say he had more yards like it means something
its like AG bragging about having highest attendance with a bigger stadium but still only coming in like 4 in average % of capacity
i feel like it means more like golf get the yards but less tries is better.

Justin Herbert against USC his freshman year 18- 33 for 162 yards and 1 pick.Finished the season with 148.2 passer rating and 63.5% completion rate . Slovis was 167.6 and 71.9 % completion rate. So yeah as a forth year started Herbert was good. Slovis so far has been amazing.

You never know these days. We let a five star top recruit in the country go and kept a 3-star as our starter and are happy about it. LOL
Well not happy that Daniels left just happy that we still have slovis

it happens. Mariota was a 3 star who go the nod over a 4 star who was rated almost 200 rankings higher nationally. people were excited for Bennett but in the end im sure Oregon fans were pretty happy with how it turned out.

I'd say so. A Heisman and some elite teams.

Well yes and no. It;s not perfect and you need to recruit for your system. Reggie Bush, Carson Palmer ,Juju and a host of others were exactly as billed. You'd be unemployed soon if you're a coach of a high profile team and were getting a bunch of 3 stars hoping to find gems.

but i mean if Boise, Fresno, Northern Illinois, and Kansas are recruiting a guy and that causes TT, Cal, Kansas State, Arizona State and Ole miss to offer his star will likely go up even though his on field was the same as before just suddenly more evaluations and offers.

Are some coaching staffs lazy? yeah. But players rise in rankings as they attend more camps and more coaches see them and more coaches offer and as they play their High School season. But some players are known since 9th grade and coaches all over have kept tabs and they reach 5 star status most of the time because they earned it. Alabama Clemson Oklahoma LSU Georgia have tons go to the NFL lately not because they have found the most gems from the pool of three stars but because they loaded up on the most 5* and high 4* players.

Should it be surprising that the losing QB in a blowout racked up more yards?

A little. When USC and Oregon met during Herberts freshman season Darnold threw for 309 to Herberts 162 at USCs 45-20 victory. That doesn't sound surprising.
