I think of it like this USC was down didnt make for UW and Oregon to not have a good game last year. didnt make for Oregon and Stanford to have a bad game last year. UW and Cal. UW and Stanford.

What's meant by that is that there is more interest in the sport when the "name" teams are good.

It's about attracting the casual fan. Addicts like us on these boards are going to watch and enjoy the product regardless of who's playing or how well our teams are performing.

But casual fans show up for the teams they've heard of.

I'm upset. The Cougs cost me an opportunity to talk shit to my UCLA friends. Lol

You still can talk shit. Anyone who takes pride in having powder blue as a school color essentially has a kick me sign on their back.

I never liked the narratives of College football is better when (fill in the team) is good.

college football was still good when Michigan was down. still good when Notre Dame was down. still good when Alabama was down. still good when Tejas was down. still good when USC was down.
the only people who reall care if those teams are good are those teams and their fans.

It’s a little different as we are on the west coast. When USC is rolling the Pac 12 is considered good. It’s just the facts. When Texas was down they still had Oklahoma. Even when Oregon was rolling and USC was down the Pac 12 was considered weak. No other team in our conference could get curbstomped like USC did against Alabama and sniff the top 5 the rest of the year. Had UW lost in 2016 to any team other than USC, UW doesn’t make the playoffs that year.

They don't even have an AD yet.

The millionaire egomaniac boosters obviously have way too much power with that schools athletic dept, but still, that list is like fantasyland and mainly designed to get suckers betting on something.

But according to USC boosters, he's got his fingers crossed that Urban turns them down so he can become their next head coach.
Because even though he's turned them down multiple times, this time will be different because the other times, it wasn't because he turned their offers down (Gasp!!! AS iF!!!!!), it's because boosters wanted guys like Sark and Kiffen more and thus was hit with the ol dont call us, we'll call you....
This all.makes perfect sense.....

But Petersen better get a hat ready because he's gonna have to really go into begging mode to these USC boosters if he's gonna want this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Not quite. USC boosters want Urban. Also, contrary to popular belief, USC was a lot closer to hiring Petersen than you want to believe. There is a very influential booster who wanted Sark and was the reason he was hired over Petersen.

Fortunately, that idiot has been neutered. He was doing things quietly, but apparently got exposed in an LA Times article a few weeks ago.

Not going to do them any good re: Petersen. I don't see him coming to USC. Especially after that bullshit happened.

And of course he doesn't want USC to be better. Nor should he. USC getting better would make what he wants to do at UW a lot harder.

Two thing will happen if Meyer ends up at USC.

1. he'll turn them around quickly & make them national title contenders
2. he'll get the football program in trouble & then quit

He's a great coach, but a win at all costs coach. He doesn't care how he leaves a university because he'll always have another opportunity somewhere else. That being said I appreciate the 7 years of success he had in Columbus.

Word is he's already putting together a coaching staff. One red flag though. He wants his 1st hire to be Sack Zmith.

Has he gotten any programs in actual trouble? I know there have been rumors everywhere he's been, but I'm unaware, or at least I don't remember any program getting sanctioned. How he handled that domestic violence issue was a
bad look for sure though.

I really am on the fence about him. On the one hand, as you point out, he wins and wins fast.

On the other, I really don't want him to be our coach and have it all catch up to him.

Imo, the best outcome would be Helton working out. But this is a really tough schedule to ve trying to save your job against.

My bad. Instead of saying trouble I should have said he's left 2 places under some controversy.

Herbert & Eason reviewed on here.

Good stuff there on both. Eason has some fairly strong tests coming the next 5 games. I'd hold off on the NFL hype until those are done.
