He collected $2 Mil for winning last weeks game and can get $2Mil more for winning the Super Bowl

Peyton Manning made $2M with win over Patriots

Back in March, Peyton Manning agreed to restructure his contract ahead of his fourth season with the Denver Broncos.

That's the nice way to put it. Another way to say it is Manning was forced to take a pay cut to keep his job. Reports indicated the Broncos wanted to slash Manning's salary by more than half, from $19 million to $9 million, after an injury-plagued year for the aging star. Eventually the two sides agreed on a $4 million reduction in base salary that could be earned back through incentives.

Those escalators included $2 million for an AFC Championship Game victory and another $2 million for a conquest in Super Bowl 50. Manning is halfway home after Sunday.

Not a bad day at the office to get a $2 million bonus for 3 hours of work.

You are not the first to say that already and won't be the last. There is reason to believe this could happen.

Just curious, but does anyone know how incentives work with the salary cap? Did the Broncos have to leave this $4 million open for this years cap, and then if he didn't hit it the extra space would roll over to next year? Or will this count against the cap for next season?

true that. Cam Newton is going to be a handful, but I still like Denver's chances to win. We'll see.

Takes $4M off of next year's cap.

If the Broncos win and Manning rides off into the sunset, he still is going to count $6.5 M against their cap for next season. Even in a loss he will count $4.5M against it.

Broncos are going to be in some serious cap trouble this offseason.

Alright so this is my small knowledge on how incentives work. There are different levels of incentives. There are those that are "Likely to be earned" or LTBE. Usually these are incentives that the player has hit in the season before so good chance they do it again. So these incentives then are actually considered for that year and if they are not reached then just carried over to the next season. "Non-Likely to be earned" incentives though do not count against the Cap this year and will go against it next year.

Manning's incentives would have only been considered LTBE if the Broncos had achieved that goal last season.

So if they had won the SB last year, the incentives would have been LTBE and cost $4M against this years cap. But because they didn't (and because they didn't win the AFCCG last year) they will be considered not likely to be earned and will count now against next year's cap.

This is a pretty common misconception, the Broncos actually have quite a bit of cap room for next season, but that's tempered by the fact that they have a lot of free agents. Right now the Broncos have a little over $13 million in cap space for next year, and by cutting Manning, Ware, and Clady, that will give them nearly $50 million in cap space (and none of those guys will be back at their current number, I think they're all likely gone but at the very least they'll take serious pay cuts to be back).

Now the big thing is free agents. Denver has a lot of them, most significantly Von Miller. The Broncos most certainly won't let him get away, and he's a likely candidate for the franchise tag until they work out a long term deal. They've also got Brock Osweiler, and who knows what the market for him will be. I've read $10-$12 million per year, but who knows if some qb needy team decides to pay him a lot more.

Then there's the RFA, CJ Anderson and Brandon Marshall. I'd imagine Denver brings them both back as well. The other big two are Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan. Both are very good and likely to get a lot of money on the open market. Honestly I doubt Denver can afford both. Personally I'd keep Jackson, as I think his skill set is harder to find, but they did just re-sign Wolfe and I'm not sure they can afford two high priced defensive ends.

The bottom line is, Denver's cap is very manageable and they're in a good position this offseason, but they're unlikely to be players for any big name free agents.

At the very least he should break off a nice lil sumpthin sumpthin for Denver's DL and an argument ca be made for the entire defense on that front.

Don't worry about Von Miller and Malik Jackson, they're about to get PAID. And Wolfe just did get his brand new contract, too.

Is there any way they cut Clady? I know he's been hurt but LT's don't grow on trees. And with Mathis likely gone this offseason, I can't imagine a team starting over and and completely re-doing the left side of their OL when they have a young QB to protect.

I thought the same last week... and I was wrong. I won't place a bet on this one.

Denver's D is great, so theoretically that SHOULD keep em' in most games, I just think Carolina's Offense is too balanced and their Defense is equally talented.

I think he'll either be cut or come back at a very reduced price. He's been hurt 2 of the last 3 seasons, and the 1 season he did play (2014) he wasn't nearly as good. He's just not worth what his contract is paying him right now, and Elway is pretty ruthless. So unless he's willing to take a lot less money to stay with the Broncos, I think he'll be cut.

I can't imagine him not hitting the open market if the Broncos try and force him to a pay cut.

Like I said, LT's simply don't grow on trees. I'd imagine he would be able to find a contract that would pay him at least 2 years $20M that he is currently under with the Broncos.

I bet a team would be willing to give the Broncos a mid round pick for him on his contract.
