The Red Wings have scheduled a conference call today to announce goaltender Chris Osgood will retire and instead take a job within the organization.
The Free Press earlier reported Osgood would return to play, but has learned otherwise.

Will never forget the back to back SCF's between his Wings and the Penguins. Osgood was arguably their best player on the ice in 09 in that series.

Dash, this was reported last night and there was an almost immediate backlash, with many sources reporting that Osgood will be back for one more year. I believe Helene St. James of the Free Press reported he would be back, along with Yahoo Sports, so I don't know what to believe. Ansar KHAAAAAAAAAAANN!!!! reported that he would retire via a conference call at noon today, and he's usually very reliable. However who the hell retires via a conference call?

We don't really know what to believe at this point, although I'm kind of leaning towards retirement for Osgood. His health took a real dive last season, and I don't see him and Holland thinking it's a good idea to take that risk another year.

seriously I have nothing by pure respect and admiration for Chris Osgoods Career. he was a very underrated goalie on a spectacular team that was never a passenger but always there to be counted on. 401 career wins. 3 Stanley cups. TWO as a Starter. That is a Famed Career.

Well, the Wings tried guys like Curtis Joseph and Manny Legace back there before giving Ozzie another chance.

I think Chris Osgood should be in the Hall of Fame, if only so Bernie Federko will have somebody to score on during the alumni games.

I don't think Osgood will, or necessarily should get into the Hall of Fame. A Cup win in '09 and he would have been a lock, in fact had the Wings won that year he probably would have taken home the Conn Smythe. Then he's in whether you want it or not. At this point I would have to say that Osgood is a player every Wings fan should know about, but not really someone that a Leafs or Wild fan born in 2015 really "has" to know about. The HHOF should be for guys who's legacy is important to the game of hockey and who's history needs to be set in stone. Osgood's a great money goalie, but not really in that catagory, IMO. But he's one of the classiest, nicest guys ever to lace them up, and he gave me some great memories. Hopefully I run into him in Traverse or Detroit someday.

good argument on that. I think that 401 wins will get him in. Will it be right? hard to say for me. The Committee has no real standard. there are a few guys that should not be in the hall but are.
