Oh.
You don't get paid to give a damn. Fine that he laughs and jokes with his friends after a loss. Don't do it five feet away from your boss.
If a guy had to give a presentation at work and completely fucked it up and lost the client, you wouldn't see him laughing and joking with his friend at the shareholders' meeting ten minutes later.
I still don't think it's relevant, even though he is getting paid. His work day was over. As for your analogy, the relative weights of losing a client and losing a hockey game are very off. A client to a business means a lot more than one game to a hockey team. And even so, the employee could laugh and joke with his friend that same day when he clocks out if he wants to. Not at the shareholders' meeting, but when he clocked out.
Actually, on second thought, I would be okay with him joking at the shareholders' meeting. He can't get the client back, so if he's joking it means he put his error behind him and has moved on, which means he's not going to let it snowball, which is a good thing.
Perhaps I'm immature (and I know that I am), but I think people take themselves too seriously at work. I think Boudreau should come under more fire for getting upset about something so petty. Ovechkin, in my opinion, did nothing wrong. He probably won't laugh so close to the podium in the future, but I wouldn't care if he did it after every game.
