Ovechkin and Kovy had a laugh after the game

Why? I would rather OV do something to change my opinion that he is a jackass, not confirm it. I enjoy liking athletes. One of my favorite things about hockey is that it has a limited amount of jackasses playing it.

Do you really believe that Crosby is a golden boy or that he is a childish whiner? I think he's neither. He's grown up on the ice and I'm sure he's done terrible things to a lot of daddy's little girls. It's what a lot of rich athletes do. Friends talk to friends after the game all the time in sports. OV's only "crime" was doing it so close to the podium where his coach was talking to the press. I'd be saying the same things if it was Crosby who did what OV just did.

The "crime" is the part I'm referring to. I don't think he's obligated to go cut himself after every loss, but it shows a lack of respect and it's maybe less jackass and more lack of common sense.

Crosby wouldn't do it, so it's a moot point. I really don't care who he plows or who he's friends with or if he picks one day of the offseason to have a coke binge. But it would irk me to see him so devil-may-care after a game like that...note "see him".

And part of the reason I'm responding like this is because of who OV is - the captain, in the conversation for best player in the world. That carries with it a certain responsibility. Sean Avery can act like a douche because he's Sean Avery. Alex Ovechkin should act a little more mature because he's Alex Ovechkin. And keep in mind I'm speaking of all the little OV incidents that show him to be like that. Just carry yourself a little better. He has a great sense of humor and his enthusiasm is electric, but shit like this makes me roll my eyes and want him to harness his personality a bit.

You're seriously comparing a laugh with a friend to Sean Avery? He had a laugh, he's not drunk in public spitting on children.

When you see something like that the game goes out the window. My first thought was I hope he's not going to have any permanent vision problems. The fact that Mottau could be back in the lineup tentatively in 4-6 weeks is great news.

I remember when it happened to whitey it really does put the game in perspective.good to see white support his ex partner despite playing for a rival.those are the things I like to see glad motts is doing well

As a sidenote, the HBO cameras are rolling. It will be interesting to see how something like this is handled by the coach, team, etc.

Fair enough Loki, I'm not saying you're wrong, I just strongly disagree with your pov. I agree that it was a stupid thing to do, I just think that the only people who should even care are Boudreau, his coaches and the Capitals players (maybe even Caps fans). I think you are overreacting here and it seems you have a lot of contempt for OV for things that a lot of other NHL players do too (sometimes on a regular basis). I get it if you just hate the guy, I overreact to Corey Perry things all the time.....I HATE the guy.....I'll belittle the guy whether he deserves it or not. I guess I just don't think OV (or Perry in my case) "owes" anybody anything other than his teammates, coaches, owner and fans. They all seem to like him just fine. He's a great player one of if not the best player in the NHL. But he doesn't have to say PC things or act in a PC manner just to appease a fan of the Penguins. My guess is if you were playing a sport in another non-English speaking country and you saw a fellow countryman/woman on the other team, you'd probably seek them out to after the game.....especially if you knew them and were friends with them.

Let's just all agree Sidney Crosby is better than Ovechkin and move on.

For anyone who doesn't live what OV was doing, would you change your minds if you found out that he was laughing at Kovalchuk's pathetic shootout attempt from a couple of weeks ago?

One of the local papers actually got some audio on it...

OV: Congrat on new contract, Kovy.
Kovy: Thank you, how much does your drop to in the last year.
OV: Drop to? What you mean?
Kovy: You know, at end, last year of contract.
OV: Nyet. It does not drop. Yours drop?
Kovy: Yeaaaaaah.
OV: (laughing) Hey Semin, come here. His contract drop off at end.
Semin: (stares blankly having no idea what anyone is saying)

Dash, you have Carte Blanche as far as I'm concerned (then again, I'm never in charge.....which is a good thing for all else involved). Anybody who likes Major League, So I Married an Axe Murderer and The Big Lebowski (and a hockey fan) is a good dude as far as I'm concerned. :)

I'm gonna steal your gif though and take credit for it on the Giants board :D
