Hatari Byrd was cited for possession late Tuesday night by Norman police
The citing officer immediately detected the strong scent of marijuana coming from inside Byrd's car and saw a bottle of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey sitting on the passenger side floorboard in plain view. The officer discovered the seal on the whisky bottle was open.
A K-9 unit was summoned by the citing officer, and Byrd was asked to exit his car when it arrived. The K-9 unit advised the citing officer that there were positive indications for illegal drugs in the car.
The citing officer searched Byrd's car and found a small plastic zip-lock bag that "had the strong odor of marijuana and marijuana residue, with a large '1' written on the baggie."
The citing officer asked Byrd if the "1" indicated a numerical sequence for more bags.
"No, it means one gram," Byrd said.
Byrd was cited and allowed to leave the scene. Byrd, a junior, played in all 13 of OU's games in 2014, accounting for 17 tackles, three pass-breakups and one forced fumble.
An Oklahoma spokesperson, when asked for comment on Byrd's citation told SoonerScoop.com, "We are aware of the matter and it is being handled internally."
