Is it just me or do people see more concerned this year about the people of Japan than they did last year about the people of Haiti? I know there was a lot of outreach when the Haitian earthquake happened but I know for a fact that people who are now "praying for Japan" or donating money to the Red Cross didn't give a shit when hundreds of thousands of Haitians were dying just last year after their own earthquake.

Probably just you. That's only my feeling, though...got nothing to back it up with.

It's more unnerving seeing this happen to such a technological giant like Japan than a country whose people were already living in cardboard houses. That's not saying Japanese are more important than Haitians. Loss of human life is loss of human life. But Japan had taken tons of precautions against earthquakes and tidal waves...but the country was still destroyed anyway. It is utterly shocking.

Yeah. I think I am just thinking of specific people. Like my brother who is actually wanting to jump on a plane and volunteer in Japan. He only dates Asian women though so......

From the financial perspective alone, when something this devastating happens to the world's 3rd largest economy, people are going to stand up and take notice.

That's not to say that people don't care as much about Haiti, but when push comes to shove, the bottom line is that a hit to the Japanese economy will have an impact on North America and more of an impact from a financial perspective on you and me (at least in the short term).

That said, I feel for people in Haiti and Japan whose lives have been changed forever by their respective earthquakes and tsunamis.

I feel there is about equal parts attention as well. No maybe its stretched out more because there were numerous things that happened (are happening) in Japan with the earthquake, tsunamis, and now the nuclear plants. Its really horrific stuff.

That's only true if you happen to like flat chested, no assed women who look like they're 13 years old. :biggrin1:

I read an article a few years ago that due to better nutrition and more food being available that China (I think it was China) recently was having a bra shortage in larger sizes (for them). It was a wonderful article that made me stop and think. And think. And think.

Good point. Thank you for being logical. I am on day two of not smoking again and around this time is when I start to get ornery and subconsciously looking for a fight.

I think there has been more of an outpouring of support for japan. And i think the fact that we have seen the devastation happen before our eyes on our tvs thanks to video footage has something to do with it. yup human life is human life but aside from the Indian Ocean tsunami from Boxing day, this type of deadly destruction is a rare occurence and it just blows our minds more ... this visual impact

/now for my ... "is it just me?" question

Is it just me, or do you notice people driving over bridges and through tunnels a little faster
