I actually think thats funny
.

You find it funny now but it's been almost a decade since 9/11. The sting subsides after time. You probably, and I'm enunciating "probably," wouldn't have found it funny on September 12th, 2011.

Well then I sure hope the families that lost loved ones or have nowhere to live now find the humor in these jokes, and get a good laugh out of it.

I think it will be good for them.

I don't think that the prior posts were trying to say that the jokes aren't insensitive, I think that the point is that someone somewhere will always take exception to any jokes that are even somewhat controversial. There really is no appropriate time to make a joke that's controversial. Someone will always get offended and this isn't something new to this day in age, look up Lenny Bruce if you doubt that. :tongue1:

My whole point is that he was the voice of the duck for Aflac, which are commercials that people identify with, and the company relies on to get more business.

When something like this happens, the Company has no choice but to let him go to save face as a comapny. Their business could suffer if they keep him on.

This is something that happens a lot in the business world with celebrities, and sometimes for stuff that is way less, and not something that is being played out on a World stage.

After all, the guy from the Dell commercials was fired because he was trying to buy a bag of weed, and everyone knew he was a pot head just from the commercials.

This...Can you imagine if Gottfried did voice-over work for Nissan or Toyota?!?
Okay, Toyota is a bad example, they have trouble applying the brakes when required.

I agree, but its also why I think companies should stop hiring comedians as spokespeople, especially ones that often use off color humor.

He has the right to joke about Japan.
AFLAC has the right to fire him.
You have the right to be mad at Gottfried.
I have the right to laugh at his tweets.

That's all.

No argument there. A company has to protect it's reputation especially when it is in the service industry. When you are the voice of the company's mascot, upon which it derives the company's identity, you're a representative of that company.

They should've known better though. Check his references! Jafar fired his squawking bird ass for insubordination back in 1994.

You'd have to do something much, much worse than laugh at a poorly-timed joke in order for me to declare you a horrible person! I'm not taking Gilbert Gottfried that seriously.

Neither am I. Don't know what this Gilbert guy does besides AFLAC ads, but I'm not declaring him evil or somehow Anti-Japanese over this. Just thought his joke was poorly timed. And in comedy...timing is everything.
