Maybe I am dumb but I never realized that the voice of the duck was Gottfried. I came into this thread thinking 'the voice of the duck tweets?'?

I am not sure what a company firing their spokesperson over what they feel to be insensitive remarks has to do with 'what America has become'. Its the company's decision to make.

He has the right to joke about Japan.
AFLAC has the right to fire him.
You have the right to be mad at Gottfried.
I have the right to laugh at his tweets.

That's all.

Thats pretty much how I feel, I just don't think his comments were funny. Kind of lame. In addition to being poorly timed.

Gotfried is the king of the "too soon" joke. He is famous for a too soon right after 9/11 at the Hugh Hefner roast and then proceeded to break out one of the most famous versions of the aristocrats of all time.

With that being said, he makes his living with questionable jokes. Sure it may be insensitive and poorly timed, but he's got a right to tell it and you've got a right to be offended by it.

It just shouldn't come as a shock that Aflac fired him is all I'm saying.

I can drink beer whenever I want to, but I'm pretty sure I would get fired for drinking while I'm working.

People are free to do or say what they want to, but they also have to realize that there may be consequences afterward.

Pretty much why this should be the land of the free, if you're fine with getting in trouble for using your freedom.

Yep, if one wants a nice easy paying job as a company spokesmen then he\she should probably lay off the shock stuff for a while, and he was obviously trying to be shocking here.

As for AFLAC, did they really think having a celebrity voice the duck added that much to it? They should have gotten someone from the mail room to do it for 2 grand or thereabouts.

AFLAC does 75% of it's business in Japan. Good reason for the firing.

The tasteless tweets are particularly problematic for Aflac because it does 75 percent of its business in Japan. One in four homes in Japan buys health insurance from Aflac. The insurer's CEO, Daniel Amos, flew to Japan on Sunday to show support for the company's employees and agents.

Anyone care about the duck at all? This was taken this morning, as he is forced to take desperate measures to feed his kids.

Is it just me or do people see more concerned this year about the people of Japan than they did last year about the people of Haiti? I know there was a lot of outreach when the Haitian earthquake happened but I know for a fact that people who are now "praying for Japan" or donating money to the Red Cross didn't give a shit when hundreds of thousands of Haitians were dying just last year after their own earthquake.
