When we were looking for our last house, some Chinese gangster got shot in his driveway in Shaughnesey (THE prime neighbourhood, and well outside of our price range)
We saw it on the news, and first thing my wife says, is "maybe their house will have a discount now".

She makes a legit point, but I don't think even murder houses lower values anymore. Gives it a hipster edge, even.

My folks live in an relatively new build house in an older part of North York that is populated mainly by elderly Italian and Portuguese folks. A km and a half down the main road there you have 3 public housing towers where at least two murders and many more attempts happen every year and people who are selling their homes are getting as much as comparables in some of the nicer parts of Toronto. Nothing shakes this market right now.
