No deaths from the kelowna fires. There have been 3 deaths of first responders this year in the other fires raging in bc.

The government response to this current fire i would say has been good. Rcmp mobilized from across the province and extra officers were sent to kelowna to help with securing houses and evacuating people. There are 41 different bc city fire departments that have sent personnel and fire trucks/equipment to help fight the fire. The west kelowna fire chief begin breaking up when he named the list of all the bc cities firefighters who are in the city helping

But you're not so close you have to worry about damage or evacuation?

I am in vancouver. I was in kelowna/osoyoos last week and weekend. It was beautiful.

My inlaws are about 5 city blocks from the perimeter of the farthest southern evacuation zone. The are on the 19th floor of a downtown kelowna condo tower.

Last night we asked them about maybe leaving for the coast for our place but they think they will be ok. I think theyre right but its scary as the sitch changes immediately when the wind kicks up. And it always kicks up on the lake around 4pmish. Theyre not sleeping much and neither are we.

Their strata/hoa told everyone in the building to remove all flammable objects from their decks (patio chair pads etc)

If the wildfire somehow gets into downtown kelowna… it wont. It can’t… it will be a crazy mass event. Kelowna may sound like some podunk cdn town but its big city now. 100k prople in downtown

Five blocks, not far at all. Fingers crossed it doesn't get any closer.

I can't imagine how bad the air probably is or will be. It was awful here earlier this summer and the fires were 700 miles away.

Hang in there!

Air quality is pretty bad in the Cowichan Valley today...That said, we've been extremely lucky this summer, things could have been much, much worse.

The air here in Campbell River (mid island) isn't too, too bad. Apparently, part of nearby Strathcona Park (provincial park) is on fire and there is a fire on Quadra Island which is a mile away. We had high winds the other day but we're down to a light breeze today.

When I finally found end up going postal, I can't decide who to seek out first -- the climate change deniers, or, the idiots wandering around close to wooded areas with lit cigarettes.

I watched a shit he’ll throw his butt out the window here in town yesterday. I followed him to his destination and had a few words with him. He told me to fuck off. I promptly got his license plate number and gave it to the feds. Fuck him.
