If you look closely, you can see all the people jumping into the water right before it blows up.

I couldn't even image going through something like that.

Yeah, that is a terrifying vid. I don't know what would be worse, going out like that, or being torpedoed and essentially left for dead in shark-infested waters.

USS Indianapolis CA-35

The Worst Naval Disaster in US History
At 12:14 a.m. on July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in the Philippine Sea and sank in 12 minutes. Of 1,196 men on board, approximately 300 went down with the ship. The remainder, about 900 men, were left floating in shark-infested waters with no lifeboats and most with no food or water. The ship was never missed, and by the time the survivors were spotted by accident four days later only 316 men were still alive

The USS Indy happened to be the ship that had delivered the atomic bomb to the Marianas Islands to later be dropped on Hiroshima.

Yep, I remember when they did a scene in Jaws talking about it.

When it came time to shoot the infamous USS Indianapolis Scene, Shaw attempted to do the monologue while intoxicated as it called for the men to be drinking late at night. Nothing in the take could be used. A remorseful Shaw called Steven Spielberg late that night and asked if he could have another try. The next day of shooting, Shaw's electrifying performance was done in one take.

EDIT: And I see Sabres beat me to it.

USS Indy reminds me a bit of the story of Louis Zamperini. If you haven't read Unbroken I highly recommend it. There's a faith angle to the end, but it's a biography basically, and it's absolutely fantastic. US Olympian, D1 distance runner, WWII veteran who was shot down over the Pacific and survived Japanese internment camps and the insane "Bird". Just a mesmerizing story.

There is a comment at the bottom that does talk about the HMS Royal Oak, but they never changed the description on the website.

Thanks Obama!

"The loss of the old ship – the first of the five Royal Navy battleships and battlecruisers sunk in the Second World War –" (from the Royal Oak wiki page)

Sheesh, internet...get it together.

Right, but it was in reference to a British battleship being sunk by a German submarine, or U-boat.

Battleships

BARHAM (31,100t, 1915), sunk by U-boat torpedoes off Sollum, Egypt, November 25, 1941

PRINCE OF WALES (35,000t, 31/3/41), sunk by Japanese torpedo-aircraft, E coast of Malaya, December 10, 1941
ROYAL OAK (29,150t, 1916), sunk by U-boat torpedo, Scapa Flow, Orkneys, October 14, 1939

Battlecruisers

HOOD (42,000t, 1920), sunk in action with Bismarck, N Atlantic, May 24, 1941

REPULSE (33,250, 1916), sunk by Japanese torpedo-aircraft, E coast of Malaya, December 10, 1941

Angelina Jolie is directing the theatrical version of this book. It is due to be released this winter.

Which, as you said, Pix, is an awesome read! :thumb:

It really was great. Hard to read at times, but worth it. He was a cool older guy too. Loved the picture of him on a skateboard and the caption that in is 70s he decided to learn how.

One time, the in-laws were over earlier than expected. My mom distracted them by giving a tour of the garden. Dad snuck out towards the car and started the engine. One of the in-laws bolted towards the driveway, shouting "Where are you going!"

To which my dad replied while putting the car in reverse, "Outta here."

Yes, he was wearing sunglasses at the time.

This kid can also almost always tell when they don't use real dinosaurs in films.
