Yes, she knows him. He's obsessive compulsive, so she'd remember him due to his tendencies. I wouldn't guess he goes on big trips often, so it is curious that they made the character acknowledge him as if he did. But I take movies at face value sometimes.

I think he had said he'd never left NYC, so I would presume he'd never been on a bus route that went that far, and thus never met that bus driver before.

Good idea. Steve Martin's my favorite of all-time and I still haven't seen it before. I need to get to it because I know it's famous. I've seen parts of it.

Have you seen "The Jerk"? I think there are parts of it you'd like.
