Isn't The Hobbit going to be two parts? I thought I had heard that somewhere, but the trailer doesn't say Part I or anything.

yes part one 2012 "an unexpected journey"

and part two 2013 "there and back again"

I remember how amazing these books were when I was a kid. I even named my guinea pig Pippin. ;)

i had a cactus named samwise (i know, fuckin wierd).

Nice to see them all translated on to the silver screen so well. I couldn't understand for the longest time how nobody had made a movie out of them

these were my favorite books as a kid. i read the hobbit for the first time when i was in 1st grade, then again in 4th grade for school, and have read it twice since then. will probably pick it up again soon.

have read lotr about 4-5 times and am currently rereading it now. i always had said, growing up, that if there was ever one movie that i would want to make if i was a director, and just knock it out of the park, it would be these books. and i am not one of those types who gets all caught up in comparing movies to books. i actually get excited and not annoyed by the comparisons. so when the movies came out and were fuckin awesome, i was blown away. so excited to see this finally on the screen!

No "Fifteen Birds?" Haha.

I couldn't understand for the longest time how nobody had made a movie out of them (aside from that late 1970s half live/half animated weird film). The cartoon was good, but it probably hurt Hollywood from seeing Tolkien's books as a viable, adult film for a long time.

I thought the opposite. When I saw the old movie for the hobbit I thought that it would be possible to make a live action film once the CGI caught up.

That cartoon was made in the late 70s, pretty sure nobody even knew what CGI was back then, if it even existed yet.

Sure, but I wasn't born until the early 80's and I didn't see this movie until the early 90's. By then I was quite aware of CGI and seeing the book translated into any form of movie gave me hope that they could translate it into a live action movie.

Supposedly, some people who screened scenes from the film say the new technology behind the 3D cameras and digital projection makes it look almost "cartoonish"... they didn't like it. I'll try to dig up the link... I'm still nerd-chubbing, though.

Pfft, I don't give a fuck. It'll still be better than any other movie.

it is still QUITE early in production they have months to get it right. I implicitly trust Peter Jackson for the final print.

Actually, production wrapped this week. They're now in post and Jackson has said he will go forward with the 48fps projection. I'm sure it'll look great.

they will tweak to be sure. its what this final time is for. its really hard to judge by what some people have said unless it was Lucas then you can for sure be ready for a cartoon movie lol
