Should I go to Moraine tomorrow or Ohiopyle? I want to hike a lot...

If you go to Moraine the North Country trail is there and you can go to McConnells Mills which is pretty scenic also.

We went to Ohiopyle and climbed up to Baughman's Rock, and then back down the sugarloaf trail.....it was about 13 miles total. Then we chilled in the river and drove home. It was a lot of fun.

Dido. I've camped out there a few times when I was younger. Nice drive out too.

Did the white water rafting quite a few times down there. Always a good time. The worst part is carrying the raft up the hill after the 4 hours on the water.

Also I did a bike ride on the rails to trails from Little Boston down there once. I thought I died by the time I was done.

BTW...I messed up about the North Country trail. :wacko: Thinking Moraine and discussed Ohiopyle! I fixed it in the later posts!

Yeah you had a great choice. Moraine is more flat less mountain views but McConnells mills has Slippery rock creek and some interesting trails/views.

Yeah you had a great choice. Moraine is more flat less mountain views but McConnells mills has Slippery rock creek and some interesting trails/views.

The one thing that I like about Moraine is the lake. You can go swim after burning your feet up for a few hours. the river is nice at Ohiopyle, but we do the nasty hikes, so you really want the full immerison of a lake to loosen up, ha ha. I had a great time at both though. i have not done McConnells Mill though. We are planning on it though.

Yeah...I saw the date, but thought I'd drop that nugget of info anyway Ohiopyle is just awesome. McConnell's Mills is nice too, getting up towards Slippery Rock, but I prefer Ohiopyle.

Also if any of you PA/NY/OH/NJ folks get a chance go check out the PA Grand Canyon in Pennsylvania State Parks - Colton Point - PA DCNR and Pennsylvania State Parks - Leonard Harrison - PA DCNR

Worth the ride and views there are great it is near route 6/wellsboro pa.

Then if you are coming from the west (OH, western PA) hit Kinzua Bridge great views too bad the bridge fell and hit St Marys PA due south for the endless Tap at the Straub Brewery.

Same here I think why I like Moraine the least since I used to live near it (5 minutes away) and it became the local park for the kids. But they are all nice.

Honestly I always liked them all and worth the drives.

I am really impressed with the hiking around Pittsburgh. I was in Blacksburg, Virginia for 6 years for school and living right on the Shenandoah was awesome. I was worried that coming up here to finish grad school, it was going to be tough to find places, but have been very happy with what is close by.

Around here doesn't compare to that area but without a doubt. I loved hiking down there! If you look on the state Parks website for PA there are a lot of areas to hike and checkout. It is amazing how few people know about them even if they are from this area.

The one I never got a chance to do but maybe some day after the kids are all moved out is Applachian Trail. I did parts of it many times but never a multi-day thing yet.
