So I got pet insurance for my dog, it covers emergency visits in case anything happens, does not cover preexisting conditions. My dog fell off the bed and hurt it's leg, was crying, could not put any weight on it. Took it to the animal hospital for x-rays etc, no broken leg just sprained it's knee.

While examining the dog they discover she has a congenital joint disorder, nothing major and super common to the breed.. So I submit the emergency room visit invoice to my pet insurance provider. They denied the claim due to a congenital disorder. The visit had nothing to do with the congenital disorder, it was a legitimate emergency, double checked the wording of the insurance and everything should be covered but they're doing the insurance company thing and making you jump through hoops before they pay anything.

Sannow I have to file an appeal. Need to contact the animal hospital again and get confirmation that the visit was to check for a broken leg etc. The example I plan to use is, so if my dog swallows rat poison and during emergency surgery they find she has a stomach disorder will they decline that visit as well? What I'm trying to say is fuck insurance companies.

First, sorry about the pup. Hope he/she heals up quickly.

Second, this is exactly why it's a terrible idea to put the health and welfare of any living thing in the hands of a bean counter at a mega corporation.

Third, fuck insurance companies.

Is there a Banfield Pet Hospital near you? Most are very good or even highly recommended. They have a pet plan that is awesome! It covers ALL visit fees, all shots, 2 comprehensive exams per year & the annual teeth cleaning. I think you also get 20% off of all medications. It is automatic, so you don't have to go through a 3rd party or submit any forms. I've been taking my dog there for 8 years & it's saved me TONS of money. Best part is, my dog loves everyone there & isn't scared to go. Although it's obviously not her favorite place. ;)

It sucks you have to do that, but I think its pretty much a given they will end up covering it. Hopefully someone just did not read the claim very well.

Man it's awful when they cry isnt it?

Awful. Can only imagine what people with kids go through.

The toilet stalls at my office. The stalls themselves are actually pretty nice, going all the way to the floor (Larry Craig wouldn't like that aspect, but I do) affording more privacy than you often find in US bathrooms.

But what drives me nuts is that the doors have spring hinges, so the door closes all the way on its own and there's no way to tell if the stall is occupied without having to just try to open it.

I always feel like a weirdo doing that when there's someone else in there.

The fact that health care decisions are not in the hands of doctors as much as they are in the hands of pencil pushing actuaries at insurance companies.

Got a letter today telling us my son's emergency surgery from last weekend is not covered as it was "not medically" necessary.

Also, pencil dicked actuaries at insurance companies who deny claims without reading the doctor's notes on what the surgery actually was before deciding it was not medically necessary. He had a surgical repair of an internal organ. The letter says he had the organ removed.

That would have been unnecessary.

In the sense that removing it would have eventually been quite fatal.

(Yes, the boy is fine. He's anxious to return to practice already)

Also, mouth-breathing shit-nuggets who want to keep giving pencil dicked actuaries at insurance companies that kind of power instead of, you know, actually giving people care for their health.

I'm glad your son is OK.

As for our healthcare system, it will get better. After all our elected officials who have nice affordable heath coverage, many of whom have never had to worry about paying for health coverage; have our best interests at heart.

In fairness (and no, I don't work for an insurance company), it was probably actually one of the suits that told the actuaries to reject more-or-less everything automatically then let people appeal it, which is when they'll actually pay it.

So you're saying that if I start hitting random people in suits with pillowcases full of golf balls, then decency might "trickle down"?

Please do the decent thing and at least yell 'fore' before you hit them.

At my workplace, we probably have between 50-60 guys on our floor and one bathroom that consists of one urinal and two stalls. It drives me nuts when people queue up behind me like I'm at the stadium watching a game because both stalls are taken and I'm currently using the urinal. Go down one floor and use their bathroom or come back later, I deal with enough pressure already.
