I took a break from metal for a little while... Now there is some decent stuff to listen to again. I started listening to jazz fusion and other odd shit. I am really looking forward to some new shit by Cynic.

Lol, that works... Theres just so many fucking genres nowadays. My true passion is what TBDM plays though. I fell in love with melodic death metal when all those bands came ripping out of Sweden. At The Gates, Soilwork, In Flames, The Haunted, Dark Tranquility, Darkane, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy...

Yes, yes and YES! Slaughter of the Soul is a great one by ATG and you can't beat Clayman by IF.

Fuck yes. In Flames went to shit though. And every song Soilwork puts out now sounds the same. The Haunted,, are garbage now. I am so pissed I missed the ATG reunion tour. :pout:

I think Dark Tranquility still has a good sound. Their last album in 2010 I think was pretty good.

I'm in a band right now that is like crossover thrash... Not really what I want to play, but I do it for fun. I really would like to take something like TBDM and combine with a progressive metal feel. Sylosis is an awesome band, prolly somehting similar to them. The stuff I play right now isnt really difficult, its just really fast. I like to challenge myself when I play. I also like to use different styles, jazz and other odd elements. I like Mastodon's current sound a lot.

I play guitar as well... My band right now is All For Spite, we dont have anything up online. We only played one show then our drummer quit. So we got a new drummer who is learning our material and we are working on some new stuff. I keep pushing them more to the metal side of stuff instead of that hardcore punky sound.

Mastodon's - The Hunter should be coming out in October, can't fucking wait for that one.

Cynic is working on their album that should be out later this year.

KSE is supposed to be releasing an album this year. I havent listened to the whole new Unearth album yet. Some of what I heard was real good, and some sucked.

I liked the first few Unearth albums, haven't heard anything new. The song they had on the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie soundtrack was pretty rippin.

KSE has kind of went downhill in my opinion. Alive or Just Breathing was the best and End of Heartache was pretty damn good too. The origional lead singer from the first album has a new band now with the guitarist Adam D called Times of Grace and they have some good stuff. If you like the newer singer of KSE, Howard Jones you should check out his old band called Blood Has Been Shed. Pretty Brutal stuff.

I used to catch Blood Has Been Shed all the time here in CT, thats where their from. I used to catch them at the Hanover House in Meriden... fucking brutal shows, the place was so small, the whole place would be a pit. Times of Grace is awesome, check out The Empire Shall Fall too, another one of Jesse's projects.

Unearth hasn't really put out a good album since Oncoming Storm, IMO. Haven't listened to the new one at all, but mostly because I didn't like the last two.

KSE I agree with your assessment powerchord. Loved Alive or Just Breathing, and actually loved the first two BHBS albums (Spirals was iffy I thought), but don't like Howard Jones singing with KSE.

The new August Burns Red officially released today, though I understand it leaked to the web early, so you may have heard it already (if you're into them). Gave it a listen and thought it was pretty good, but doesn't really break any new ground for them.

I haven't been very impressed by too much stuff on the metal/metalcore side of things lately. The new Between the Buried and Me EP was OK, but basically more of the same from them.

I did enjoy the new Cave In as well, which saw them getting back to being a bit heavier and dropping some of the Prog Rock they were going for for a while. Still not as good as Until Your Heart Stops though.

Pretty solid new album from Straight Line Stitch a couple months back too. Not sure if you know them, but they're another female-fronted band in the vein of Walls of Jericho or In This Moment. A bit more melodic than some of their prior stuff.

Not a big ABR fan... from what I remember they were whiny. BTBAM is cool, but like you said, it all asounds the same. I love Cave In, their older stuff and their newer more melodic stuff. I havent really listened to those female fronted bands. I like Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy though. The chicks in Winds of Plague and Bleeding Through are pretty hot. As well as the chick from Lacuna Coil. But were not talking about hot metal chicks... Or are we? :eyebrows:

I suppose we could be.

I enjoy the female fronted ones from time-to-time as a nice change of pace. There's definitely a few out there who can belt it out just as well or better than a lot of the guys.

Cave In is still around? Haven't thought of them in a while. I am out of the loop these days.

I agree on the chick in Bleeding Through. I met her at show a few years back and had her sign my CD. She said she didn't play on that one but I told her to just sign it anyway. Should have just tried to get a pic with her.. lol

Haha, you know how short Howard Jones actually is then.

I met him in 2002-ish after they played a show in Buffalo. Always thought he'd be taller.

That Buffalo show was pretty epic too, BTW. They called it Ratboy's Birthday Bash, for the original drummer from Every Time I Die. Don't remember all of the bands anymore because there were like 12 bands that played over something like 8 hours, but it included It Dies Today, ETID, Poison the Well, Hopesfall, From Autumn to Ashes, BHBS, Diecast (before they got shitty), Nora, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, and a few others.

Coalesce was supposed to play too (during one of their many "permanent" breakups), but missed the show because they got pulled over for speeding in Ohio. Still pissed about that one!

Coalesce is pretty bad ass... Pissed I never seen them live. I was actually listening to There Is Nothing New Under The Sun not too long ago.
