Same here, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Olympics, winter or summer. My favorite vids on YouTube are the Olympic closing credit ones set to the song from "Remember the Titans." NBC uses the same song every Olympics and it's always so well done. I usually have a hard time watching them without welling up a little.

Then moved to the US and told friends that I used to play handball and they kept telling me they did too... in junior high where you throw a ball against a wall or something. I was like.. WTF? That is NOT handball; what's wrong with you people?

I don't know how long this has been the case, but they've used man-made kayak runs for at least a couple decades now. Not sure how long it has been used before that. Unless "Whitewater Stadium" in Sydney is a naturally-occurring lake area.

The biggest problem I have with watching the Olympics is the coverage. They only events they show are the ones the USA has a chance to medal in. Cycling in that velodome thing is cool, but they don't show much of it. I already mentioned team handball. Ping Pong is an Olympic Sport, VERY COOL!! What about Pool, 9 ball & Snooker? Now if they would just add Air Hockey to the Winter Games we'd be all set.
:I couldn't care less about the USA Basketball Invitational. Both our Men's & Women's teams will once again win Gold with ease. If they were to lose it would be the biggest story of the Olympics.
Why is Tennis an Olympic Sport? It's just another Tennis Tournament for Medals instead of Money. I'll pass.

I like the Summer Olympics, but the Winter are my favorite because the number of events is more manageable. You have time to really soak in the athletes, the goings on of the day, see all the big things that happened, etc. It doesn't have to be chosen for you b/c there are only 3-4 events going on at a given time, and they are all televised. So you truly get to pick your Olympic experience. Summer has lots of cool stuff, but too many events, and too many of the same events - swimming and running literally have 100s of medals. Shooting has 14 different competitions. Really? It's a bit too much and I don't think you get the full experience in the Summer like you do in the Winter. It's mostly a swim meet followed by a track&field meet with some gymnastics, team sports, and random events thrown in. That said, I'll eat it all up and love it b/c I'm a sucker for the Olympics.
