One deal for a bat and they'll get there. I honestly believe it. A guy like Headley would be fantastic. And I think the Pirates could put together a pretty decent package for a bat without ransoming their system. They have a lot of depth among mid-level starters, and those types of prospects carry a lot of weight in trades.

Good points. I'd put them at about #8 in the NL right now. They're building, but it takes a while in baseball and I don't think they are a legit contender for the playoffs yet. Definitely heading in the right direction though.

They also have Starling Marte knocking on the door as outfield help. Top flight defender with a solid bat. By the end of the season, I'd love to see a lineup of:

1. Marte LF
2. McCutchen CF
3. Headley 3B
4. Alvarez 1B
5. Walker 2B
6. Tabata/Presley RF
7. Barajas C
8. Barmes SS

And the pitching is very solid right now. I expect Rudy Owens will soon replace Bran Lincoln, and perform at about Maholm or Saunders levels, which would be very solid for his role. And when Karstens gets back from his injury, he can displace Correia.

That team can win more than they lose.
